Default Spy shots: SsangYong C200 crossover

Ssangyong showed the first fruits of its relationship with Shanghai Automotive Industries Group (SAIC) at the Paris Motor Show last year with the unveiling of the stylish C200 crossover concept vehicle. Despite recent financial hardship, Ssangyong is determined to continue with its new model renaissance and is reportedly planning to launch up to 20 different vehicles over the next five years.

The first of these will be a production version of the C200 concept, which has been spotted undergoing cold-weather testing in Northern Europe ahead of a planned launch later this year. While it is unlikely to be sold in the U.S., it will almost certainly be available in Europe and most parts of Asia and South America.

The C200 has been styled by Giugiaro, whose ItalDesign styling house is working closely with Ssangyong on several other models. It will come with FWD as standard and a 2.0L petrol engine. Rated at 175hp (130kW) it won't be a barnstormer, but it should provide for more than adequate city driving.

It will be the first monocoque-bodied vehicle ever produced by the South Korean company, and the first with FWD. Ssangyong plans to eventually use this architecture for new sedan models as well as hatchbacks, which will complement its current lineup of SUV and commercial vehicles.
