Default help needed?????/

I just bought a beat up 2.2 1996 imprezza outback to do some rallycross in. Brought it home and the car started to cut out at 4200 rpm. In any gear, any amount of throtle. It feels like a rev limiter at exactly 4200, kinda like a street bike. Heres the wierd thing.....If you turn the car off and restart it, it will rev all the way to redline 3 or 4 times before it starts limiting. Oh ya, I forgot to mention that when I started looking closer at the car I realized that someone had changed the engine to a EJ18. I have heard that the EJ18 are a much beter engine to build that the 2.2, but I know very little about subarus now.........That will change

Any advise as to where to start would be appreciated

I believe that with the engine swap its going to throw you into M4(full modified class) at the rallyX. That can be a big rough if your car is not well prepared and others in the class are heavily modified.

if it's only for rallyx, gut that mofo. I mean it, do every weight saving thing you can. Take the hood off if you have to(I'm not sure what the rules say about the trunk). Power doesn't mean everything at a rallyx. Tires usually do. Since your engine is (more or less) gutless, it'll be easier to remove weight than to make more power. As for your current problem......I have nothing. Sorry.

Try the purge valve... my buddy's girlfriend had this same fuel cutting problem with her Miata. I have no idea where it's located or how much it costs.

Default air flow

If this helps anyone else........It was the air flow sensor on the air box. Unpluged it and the car ran like crap but reved up great.
