Default Working bluetooth Microphone for under $20 2008 NAV

First before I post how to do this I want to thank maxfiles25 and SVXdc for helping me show this could be done. I thought I would show how to make the wire so you save some huge cash.

These are the posts that helped me

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&postcount=152

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&postcount=157

I tried to get the pics the best I could but because of the small wires it was very hard with my camera.

First thing I started off with is a Garmin External Microphone part # 010-10804-00

The reason I got it is because it some with all the attachments for the car just like the OEM one.

First thing I did is I cut off the plug and stripped back the wire. The negative was wraped around the positive wire.

Next I pulled back the wires to have my negative and positive.

To make two negative wires I took a phone line and made two wires out of it. The gauge of wire matched what the positve wire was all ready in the Microphone.

I twisted the 3 wires together. Then I soldered them together.

After that I used some heat shrink tubing to make sure it all stays together that there is less of a change of a short.

Next I added the plugs to the end.

To protect the plugs and make sure the wire stay together again I used some heat shrink tubing.

This is how it looks pluged into the back of the head unit.

Once I got it all hooked back up I went and checked my menu and I now can setup my phone.

This is how the Microphone looks. To me it looks just how the OEM one does.

I did a few calls and my phone works.

Looks great. Nice work!

FYI, your camera may have a macro function you can use. It helps reduce or eliminate blurriness when taking pictures of small objects up close such as wires or screws.

Just an update. I have made and received some calls. Everyone has said I sould clear and I hear everyone just fine. It is a little weird hearing people though your speakers but I am getting use to it.

Last thing I am trying to figure out is how to sync my phonebook since I have smartphone. I just can not find it right now. Once I have that done I am fully set.

Thanks for saving me some cash! Couldn't find the microphone in any store so had to go online....should have it in a few days. Just couldn't see spending $200 on a 3 wire set-up. Sure hope it works!

If you have any questions please ask me. I will try to help you out with what you need. I love having this option though. Makes is so nice for driving if you get a call.

I see you're in McHenry. I'm in St. Charles. Just bought this thing. Traded in my R32 for it. I retired last year so I have lots of time to "tinker"....

How are you with standard HU's? My daughter also has an '09 WRX Premium without navi. She was wondering if she can have factory Sirius and ipod adapters at the same time??

Where do you sit your phone while you're using this? I assume the audio comes out of the car speakers? I have a cradle for my phone on a panavise bracket that sits next to the HU. I have to turn my HU off when I get a call on my normal BT headset because the phone's radio interferes with my sound system. I can't imagine that coming through the speakers during a conversation would be easy to deal with.

That I do not know. My car came with the Sirius all ready done when I bought it. I do not have a Ipod.

I just have my phone in the cubby hole in front of the stick. When you get a call what you are listing get turned off and the audio goes though your speakers. As long as you have your windows up you are good with sound quality. Windows down it is not great it is hard to hear people.

Off the topic, but I noticed you are getting 21.9 MPG, I have been getting roughly 24.5 but I haven't been up the rpm range yet since only 900 miles on engine.

Back on topic, my question to you is how do you get the head unit out of dash?
Thanks for the great guide this is very informative and I will be doing this once I find the microphone. I went to radio shack and best buy and neither had this mic or anything similar.

To remove the head unit I just tilted the screen and pulled off the trim around the HU. After that you will see 4 screws holding in the HU. Just undo them and pull out the HU.

Couldn't find a mic at those stores either. Had to get the mic through ebay. Cost was $8.61 shipped.

Thanks! this is very helpful, i've got the parts on the way to do the same.

I;ve heard there is a firmware update disc that comes with official "bluetooth kit". obviously not needed to get it functional, but fixes some issues. know anything about that?

Check and see what version your car is. If you have the older version let me know. I think I have the firmware update somewhere on my PC. I can try and send it to you. You will just need to burn it to a CD.

I have the same, 6100 version 05.07.11

I JUST got this hooked up today, SWEET. I couldn't transfer the phone book so I really want that CD...if anyone wants help setting this up it was really easy for me, I took a logitech headset I had laying around apart for the microphone, so total cost was $1.99 for the pinouts. I can't believe I got this working for that price, thank you NASIOC et al

Sorry I had some PM's about this install I have not been able to get back to. I have been going nuts between 50+ hour work weeks, College, and Girlfriend. Just have had no free time. Before the forum crash I lost some PM's about the ISO. If anyone needs some help still please PM me.
