Default Swap car candidate

ok... well i found a FWD impreza L....

i want to know, HOW hard would it be to swap an AWD system in it...

*i have my old(totaled) 95 impreza AWD WRX swap... the drive train is perfect...

im worried that FWD impreza are like the mitsubishi GS-T...

Example: if u want to convert a GS-T to a GS-X u have to mod the chassis a lil...along with getting a GSX gas tank...

i want to know if the FWD impreza needs no chassis modding to make it a AWD impreza...

idk.. is that confusin?!

dude this is covered a bunch... many projects on here that go into great detail on their sawp. there are some shops that do motor swaps but be ready to spend 5k +

search the "subaru conversion" thread"

"im worried that FWD impreza are like the mitsubishi GS-T"
^ and dont go 'round sayin this...makes you sound like a dork

yes, the imprezza L is a great platform for wrx swap if you got the money, you could do a sti swap. search and you will find a bunch of sti powered L bodys out there.

this project wont be cheep... again, not like some mitsubishi... to give you an idea of cost...

sti motor: $3,000 - $5,000 +/-
sti tranny: $2-3,500
wrx motor: $2-3,000 +/-
wrx tranny: $2,000 +/-

and the wiring harness will be a **** toss to sort out... many hours

to covert to awd you will need a donor wrx.
-motor
-sub brace
-tranny(wrxs the front diff bolts to trany)
-drive shaft
-front A arms
-wrx steering rack
-rear diff
-rear axles, wrx rear disks
-front brakes, axles
-radiator
toss the battery in the trunk.

its not a Mitsubishi....you wont have to Cut or hack or ghetto rig the swap.

from '93- to present subaru motor, tranny, suspension etc all bolts up...

not necessary but pick up motor, tranny mounts and a new pitch stop mount.

put simply, no, you would not need to do and chassis modding, everything bolts on.
If you have a functional (essentially) donor car and a spare weekend, you're in business.

...... thanks for all the info... but i just wanted to know if i had to do chassis modifications... i have a 95 impreza L... but someone hit me and totaled it...so i saw a FWD for sale and thought maybe its possible... but now that i think of it .... ill just wait to get a AWD impreza... so i dont have to do TOO much...

However, you do need to get an AWD gas tank, just like in a Mitsubishi...

he has a AWD gas tank .. in his wrecked-swapped car
thad has it right its just more work 93-95 coupe/sedan/wagon will all work
96 has the 0bd-2 (which you don't want)

you really shouldn't have to spend much .. there should be plenty of basket case 93-95s
i would think less than $500, rust being the major factor. Post a wanted thread on seattle/portland/inbetween craigslists looking for a nonruning car ...

believe me, the only way you want to do a fwd->awd conversion is if you have a donor car. i converted mine by piecing together things here and there and it sucked. cost a lot too, i needed so many little things i didnt have. since you have your other shell just drop the entire bottom of the car (pretty much literally everything that bolts on) off the car, pop all the plugs out of the FWD car where the bolts go, and bolt it up. ding-dang-done
