Default 07 Wrx Vf48!!

Hi guys, ive been eagerly waiting to do this for quite the time now. I currently own a stg II 07 wrx that put down 232/324 at P&L's dyno with the following mods on a conservative tune:
Invidia V3 Downpipe
Invidia Uppipe
Walbro 255
STI TMIC
Im scheduled for a retune today, but this time with a few more goodies. In addition to the previous mods, I have added a K&N typhoon, GMS turbo inlet, VF48 and a HOA 3 port boost solenoid. Im excited to see what she can do after reading up about the success with the vf48's lately!!! Keep in mind that I will still be running stock injectors for now. Ill keep ya guys updates as the hours go by. Any nice inputs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your time.

UPDATE: May 21st, 2009
Shes back and man am I glad. She put down 280/280!!! The torque curve "line" is amazing and pulls all the way to redline with torque dieing down to about 220 by 7krpm IIRC. I will scan the results when I get home in a few hours. I however now have 3 dilemas in my situation. 1st major dilema = Injectors are almost maxed at 96% IDC. 2nd= STI TMIC is limited to 17.5 psi of boost (Jorge even crushed the spring on the bpv). 3rd= Stock catback is maxed out!!. The amount of backpressure after 5k RPM is ridiculous. Plx give me any ideas all u fans!!!

Good luck today.

Your TQ is already pretty big.
Hopefully you'll end up with closer to 300whp tho.

Hey by all means post your dyno today. I've got the same setup as you do on my 08 except I have a FMIC and 850cc injectors (just incase I go to a 20G if I don't find the 48 to be powerfull enough). I am hoping to get protuned next week after I can finish my build.

I just noticed you're over in kay-zoo and we both got red cars... Who is your tuner?? What do you say we take our cars down I-94 and see where we top out at??

I say you get P & L's catback. Its amazing. I would upgrade your injectors and get a spearco top mount. PM me if you need a video of the exhaust.

Jorge at P&L motorsports tuned the car. Jorge is absolutely the man. He spent countless hours talking to me in person before we even attempted to dyno the car. IF anyone knows Jorge, they too can vouch for me and say he is very very cautious about the tuning he does. He will not and I repeat not push the boundaries of your car at all, unless you ask for it . He gave me what he considered "the most conservative of conservative tunes" lol.

For stock injectors and only running 17.5 psi, I'd say those are great results. Congrats!

Thanks all. Im absolutely stunned at how well this "identical to a vf39" turbo can hold power to redline.

seems right on track for 17.5-18 psi. could he not push any more psi? was that why he was crushing the bpv?

as far as identical to vf39, it is, except the wastegate is sprung a bit stiffer, thats why people say it holds better to redline.

you can do the same thing with a vf39 with a wastegate helper spring, or even a vf30, 34, 43, etc. (mebbe the 43 is sprung heavier too) top end flow is exactly in line between my vf30 and my vf39, same flow. verified via logs.

wait...is there a typo or was this a totally different dyno than before? your torque decreased?
And as far as your injectors...same as the STI but different fuel pump...so stock tune on them must be horrible!

Losing 40wtq from the TD04 is strange... Interested to see the plot.

That's on the same dyno?

i thought that too....

they put down 316/360 with a Saab on a similar setup. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1478419

at any rate, good work and keep us informed!! i'm curious to see what the catback/injectors do...i'm convinced this is the turbo i'm going to go with for my ride as well.

Congrats on your newfound power!

So anyways, did you drive all the way to Ill to get tuned or were you in the area? That's a heck of a drive in an untuned car! Seing as I'm about 80 miles from K-zoo maybe I could make the trek one day to P&L.

So that stock catback is *that* bad... Yikes!!

So I'm guessing my fmic and turboback and injectors would put be around 310whp on the 48 and tappering down to 225lb-ft @ 7,000rpms just like every P&L tuned VF tappers down to. So do I sell the 48 and step up to the 20G for more high end? Questions, questions, questions....

My offer still stands, when I get my car together and tuned I'll come out to k-zoo and race you.

I don't even know where you guys are comparing the Saab vs this car?

This car is running less boost, due to a more restrictive setup, and due to a cooling deficiency. Add ~97% IDC's. I don't know where the armchair tuner thinks anyone is responsibly going to try and push more out of a setup...

Give me a better IC, and 20-21 PSI on the bottom end and you'll see 350 lb/ft of torque on a different car.

You guys really can't compare one car to another. Just use it as a general guide.

So the Intercooler was the main thing holding the tq numbers back Jorge?

Wasn't the same STi Top Mount on the car for the TD04 tune though? Just surprising that he would lose that amount of torque with an "upgraded" turbo. I would've expected it to be equal or better all things considered.

The catback would only hold back the top end would it not?

Yes same dyno (dynojet IIRC), as for the loss in torque... the 324tq achieved in my previous tune only lasted for so long before it dropped drastically. The 280 torque i put down on this tune holds for about 3k rpm more lol. As I write this im in the process of scanning the two dyno sheets. Ill keep u guys updated in about 10 minutes so you can see the differences yourselves. Plx keep in mind that I have not only one factor limiting me, but 3. Inj, top mount and exhaust. How am I gonna make more power without more headroom on stock injectors ?? And If i did have injectors, how would I raise the boost to make more power with my Intercooler. and finally lol, if i did have those two, I wouldnt be making much more power on the stock exhaust lol. Next time around ill make the torque I should be making without all the restrictions
