Default Are 05 STi AXLES the same size as Late 04 STi?

I just removed a busted late model 04 STi axle from my car. I had a spare axle laying around which I had thought was from an 04 STi but turns out it was about .5" shorter at the threads. (Not sure if it's from an 05 STi, or something else?)

So now I need to order a new axle but want to make sure a late model axle is the same as an 05.

I would like to know the EXACT same thing. Someone please answer, I know the spline is the same because I have already put 05-07 sti hubs/knuckles on my 04 sti, but I thought I once heard that the 05-07's are a little longer, which makes the stance of the rear a little wider, thats what i thought the trim piece was for along with the new 8" instead of the 04's 7.5" wide rims.

I need to know because 1 of mine broke and now I am looking for used ones to replace it & its much easier to find 05-07's then 04', but still just want to know if they are completely compatable or a little bit different (in length)
