Default How do you aim JDM STi headlights (bugeye)?

I'm trying to adjust my JDM STi HID's (the black chrome ones) on my '02. I've fiddled with both of the little gear looking contraptions and neither seem to have any effect on the aiming of the low beams.
Where is the thing you adjust?

I just put these same headlights in my car as well. The white adjustment knob on the lower part of the headlights is for the up and down and the one closer to the top is for the side to side adjustment. If the bottom one doesnt work it my be broken. I had no problems with mine so you can adjust them with out the levelers hooked up.

^^^^what this guy said.. I get flashed all the time for my lights...and I could swear they are as straight forward as can be...the driver side headlight is the one that causes the problems...

You can't aim them as they are but you can retrofit them. People have used different parts but I know the mercedes E55 Bi-Xenons work. Check this thread out.

I know this thread is 7 years old, but I am going to add my 2 cents since this was the first thing to come up on Google when I searched.

JDM headlights CAN be aimed. There are two white knobs on the back of the headlights. The higher of the knobs controls left and right (spin the knob left to last and vice versa). the lower knob controls up and down. (spin knob to left for down, right for up)

Now if spinning these knobs does nothing, they may be broken, this is what happened to me on one of my lights. I had to bake the headlight and remove the cover to gain access to the aiming contraption, there are tons of tutorials on how to do this online. More or less the aiming system is a thin bolt with a knobby end, the knobby end pops in to a piece of plastic, screwing the bolt out pulls or pushes the projector up, down, left, or right. If the bolt's knobby end comes out of the plastic it will no longer control the headlight's projector. You will have to open up the headlight and pop in the knobby end of the bold back in to the plastic bit.

Finally I must say if you are going with JDM headlights, you really should only run them if they are retrofitted for LHD, or if you change out the shield for a LHD drive shield. I was lucky enough to find a set of JDMs that were professionally retrofitted on here for a good price. Quite simply due to the way the shield cut off works, you would have to aim RHD headlights so low, they are ineffective. In fact I do not believe the JDM headlights can be aimed low enough to properly run them.

Long story short if you want HIDs, and you're handy, the far cheaper option is to retrofit an OEM set of headlights yourself. Or if you have some bucks, you can send the headlights off to be retrofit professionally. If you are dead set on JDMs then the only "right" way to run them is to retrofit them with LHD projectors or open the headlights and change the cutoff shield to a LHD drive shield that can be bought on eBay.

Just my 2 cents from my experience with JDMs

I'm about to start retrofitting my JDM projectors and was wondering if anyone has the English FSM headlamp aiming procedure for these lamps. I saw the first half of the screen-grab in another (Depo lamp?) thread.

I would just follow the general alignment of the cutoff elbow being at least 2 inches lower at around 25ft away.

Also, what projectors are you going to use? TRS' Mini D2S 4.0 has gotten to a point where I think it makes much more sense than a TSX, and maybe even RX330. Whatever you choose, make sure you test them first to see if you need to adjust the shield etc. for the hotspot / shield height fine tuning. I'd also recommend considering a foreground limiter.

Going with RX350s, stock lenses, no color tuning. I'm VERY interested in a fore ground limiter, but there isn't a lot of detailed info out there. Lots of wall shots though!

I will check the shield height, but I'm not too interested in more low beam light.

The RX350 should be similar to EvoX-R when it comes to how an FG limiter can be added. I have a thread on making FG limiter on an EvoX-R (here).
