Did you pull out the clutch fork pin?
This seems to be overlooked by many...

remove all connecting bolts and pins leaving the four black bolts and the tail of the transmission thats surround the shafts for last once removed use a rubber mallet to start to seperate the two peices of the housing then once seperated used a flat head or small pry bar and gently work your way around until it in completely seperated then remove. Found this to be easiest to have tranny laying on side and lift top part off of bottom and Thud is right u probably overlooked the clutch fork pin people done realize that it also connects the two peices of the casting to one another
