Default OK need help? (trunk swap problem)

ok so.. i have a 06 sti trunk and i traded with a 06 wingless trunk. I switched the locks, the tension rods, and the latch from the trunk. We swaped the trunks bolted them down and they wouldnt shut.. we tryed switching the latches back but still wouldnt shut on either car. I did some searching but didnt find any similar problems. Am i missing something?

I dont think you switch latches. I didnt switch mine when I got my wingless. That may be your issue (something no longer lining up)

we tried it first without switching the latches and thought maybe we needed to, but still didnt work. So u think it is one of the latches that needed adjustment?

Hard to tell without being there honestly. I have never heard of anyone having that issue before.

What do you mean by "won't shut?" Does the trunk like not come down flush with the body? Or does it go flush, but the latch won't... erm, latch?

Are the latches open? can you latch it by turning the key and the closing it and the releasing the key?

One of two things is most likely happening.

Like kpluiten offered, the latches may be closed.

Or the latches need some adjusting. I had trouble with tspinks cf deck lid... couldn't get it to work... and had to put my deck lid back on. Come to find out, he had to adjust his latch to get the cf deck lid to latch. Why he didn't know that... I don't know.

ya we did try having the latch open and closed and any other position i could find, and still no closing. And yes even with the key in it, it still wouldnt close. Adjustment in which way? like side to side or up and down?

Yeah, sounds like you're having the same problem I had. I imagine you'll need to adjust the latch in any way it needs... up, down, left, or right.... which may be kinda hard to judge.

Maybe have someone looking through the pass-through in the backseat, into the trunk. That way you may be able to see where to adjust the latch.

put a screw driver thru the latch and turn the key as you pull down with the screw driver.. itll flip the little claw back over to the right

^^ thats exacty what I was thinking.

The trunk latch is pretty simply

I really dont see how this can go wrong.

unless you try to slammed it shut while the latch was enaged(as if it were already wrapped around the hook point) and now has become broken because of it.

When I did mine I think I actually crawled into the trunk with a flashlight and tools. Make sure you have help though...you don't want to get stuck in there with the heat. If you are a big guy, perhaps take out the back seat...it is VERY easy.

i understand how the latch works, it works perfectly fine with my trunk on. Just with the wingless regardless if we switched latches it would not shut. And no i didnt just slam it shut i have more sense then that.

I had the same problem when i installed my CF trunk it just wouldent latch but was lined up right, i had my little brother climb into the trunk and see why it wasent latching. Come to find out that the latch was too far forward (toarwds the front of the car) and no matter what we did we couldent get it to line up.

What i ended up haveing to do was remove the entire latch and put it into a vice and flatten the bracket, not compleatly but just enough to get the hook to line up with the hoop. Look to make sure this is your problem and be very careful if you go this route because you can easily break it, go slow and take your time and only do minor adjustments, this should fix your problem.

With OEM trunks, removing the latch and adjusting it in a "vice grip" should be far from necessary…

With that is mind maybe one the vehicles had a rear fender bender..
