Default X Games 15

We went to the X Games Rally Race today (August 2nd 2009) in Carson, CA. Here are some pics and Video we took. Anyone go or watch it on ESPN? I was disappointed with the anti-climatic ending.

i went to x games today.. sorry im disappointed in ken block.. pussing out for the jump.. he could have made that jump.

Personally from last year to this year.. i dont like how they end the races early if something happens.. both cars should push to the end.

Yeah about the anti climatic ending.. pastrana could have kept going as well.. he wasnt wedged in..

I am very impressed with that new euro fiesta ford was fronting. Does anyone know if that is replacing the focus in wrc next season with the new s2000 rules? I haven't followed wrc that closely over this last season so please don't flame me if it is a stupid question. Lol all I know is that little car is fast.

Pastrana is no McRae. I thought he should have kept going too.

yea... totally wasnt wedged in. We walked over to where his car stopped. It was more like sitting at an angle in the middle of the lane.

It almost looked like Pastrana's right front wheel was turned more than normal when he stopped....like broken steering/tie rod?

And STi-MAN...Block was smart for not jumping. His suspension was borked and he totally would not have made it.

Those Fiestas looked fast for sure! Hey Ford, give us the Fiesta and make it AWD and turbo and I'll trade in my Subaru

I second that, although someone was saying he might have messed something up. This is just a pro bowl for them and a marketing platform for ford this year. But yeah, those things were quick.

Apparently, one of the hoses came of of Deegan's Ford so he was running the race with no boost.

where you there? I was.

he ran the whole outer course beating his opponent(and actually bragged about it when interviewed) his suspension was fine... trust me he would have made the jump.. he pussed out.

also about pastrana, he hit the rear end.. doubt that would cause a tie rod break.

well if he kept his foot on the pedal he would have made it. his speed into the jump was more then enough to clear it. and whatever the 'problem' was. it didnt seem to appear as he went thru the outer track, beating the competition by alot.

also thought it wasnt cool for him to bring up beating the guy when he DQ'ed and opted to skip out of the jump.

I personally expected more from the guy who is known to take some serious jumps on snow or whatever.

yeah i hear ya on all accounts man. to me the whole 'rally' event in the x-games just doesnt sit right to me. i know they want the fans to be able to watch it, but if it was presented in some other format or something i might like it better. i agree with you about it being weak that the other driver doesn't have to finish the race even though the other driver crashed or was dq'ed.

propps to brack and the ford fiesta for bringing home the gold.

^^ definitely..

I think the reason i prob sound more angry.. is because i spent money on the tickets.. and expected the same sort of racing as last year.

Props to pastrana on the part that up until he lost the car.. he was driving that thing REALLY well.. vs that 800 hp fiesta.

It's not so much the format but the coverage sucked. It would have been nice if ESPN had done a bit more.

The Ford team should not have sent Deegan out there with a popped hose, knowing he wouldn't have enough power to make the jump. The race, and much of the broadcast, was painful to watch.

Article from Autoblog.com:

We're not going to say we told you so - because we didn't - but we are going to go ahead and say we're totally not shocked that former Indy 500 champ Kenny Brack just won some X Games gold. After all, we're still a touch weak in the knees from our little ride along with him and his atomic weasel Ford Fiesta rally car last Thursday. First thing's first: what a coup for Ford. Beating Subaru at X Games is like beating Muhammad Ali in the 1960s. It just doesn't happen very often. Turns out that the big jump that had everyone at Ford a little more worried than they were publicly letting on just wasn't an issue. The hopped up Fiestas did great. In fact all three Ford drivers (Brack, Foust and Deegan) made it to the semifinals, along with Subaru's Travis Pastrana.

What a great intro to the sport of rallying for Kenny Brack. It looked as if Foust was going to beat Brack heads up, but then Tanner spun out and Brack was pitted against Pastrana and his Subaru in the final. Pastrana is ahead after one lap and everyone had pretty much concluded that he was about to win his umpteenth X Game event. But at the start of the second lap, Pastrana goes wide, spins, hits the back left side of his car against a barrier and can't continue. Ten years after winning the the Indy 500, Kenny Brack wins X Games Rally gold. Good job, Kenny.

you know i def would have liked to have seen subaru take a gold but that's not why i'm that mad. travis getting "wedged" (sorry it you can walk behind a car you're not stuck), ken tapping a wall and breaking the rear suspension, deegan losing boost. i mean these were some pretty pathetic things to prevent some good competition. was jsut a big let down. prefer bigger wrecks to something unimpressive

I can send you the coverage I recorded. You can see it clear as day on the TV broadcast... he turned in too early, and the front passenger side wheel came in contact with the barrier, the turn *before* Pastrana became 'wedged'. This action is what caused him to 'appear' become wedged... he lost all steering control. Can't really continue if you can't turn. And he knew it.

Sure, you were there. However, those of us at home have the capability to rewind/replay as many times as we want.

As much as I don't like Block, I commend him for taking the sane route. He knew his suspension was borked, and made a decision to not to go over the jump with a 'passenger' (i.e.: not a co-driver) in the car... he did what he had to do to not only protect the car that he needs, but to protect those in it along for the ride.

This is rally. Things can, and will happen. Things break. Many stages are won due to attrition than pure driving. "To finish 1st, 1st you must finish."

What I was disappointed at was the lack of time in service for Deegan to fix his Turbo hose (IC piping more than likely). But, they were regulated to TV time... so thems the rules.

What regs do these cars have to follow for this event?

Just seemed like the Fords were tons faster than everything else out there. I thought there was a cap on HP and such to try and keep the cars equal. If these Fiesta's are really running 800 hp then how exactly is that a fair race?

They were restricted, just watch the Fiesta on Pikes Peak...full power.

Travis clipped the front and then hit the rear.

Broke a tie rod/steering arm on the front passengers side.

Think Nial McShea 2008.

Yes, But it doesn't seem that they were restricted as much as the other competitors.

I wonder what the weight difference is between all the cars.

If these Fiesta's are so good why are they not running them in a Rally Series? Or are they?
