Motor Swap?????
I was wondering a few things about a motor swap in a 1996 impreza.....
1) Cost 2) is there any custom labor involved such as motor mounts, steering colum, driveshaft? 3) the wiring: is it really hard? 4) is there a easier motor to swap into the impreza? such as the EJ20T or EJ20TT? thank you for all of the responses.

The EJ22T will fit, as will the EJ20 and EJ25. Wiring will probably be a bit of a nightmare. You'll want a witing harness and ecu from whatever engine you pick. You could always use an aftermarket engine management system to control it, but you'll have a nice learning curve there.
The EJ22T has a single turbo, not twin. |

Anytime that you want to use a factory turbo in a car not originally equiped with one, you will need to source a turbo Legacy cross member for the exhaust manifold to fit the car. Otherwise you can have up/down pipes fabbed for a EJ25 manifold to use a DOHC head, but whats the point, you can use the complete factory exhaust to the tail pipe if you want, or any after market set up for the old WRX (of particular interest here would be headers), when you have the proper crossmember.
There are alot of threads about this, you just need to search for them. They have been gone over and over and over before. There is alot of stuff you need to do, and depending what way you choose to solve problems, you have different ways that you need to go with the project. Particularly engine/turbo management. cheeRS, Greg |
