Question Random Tech Cat Q's

I've done a pretty thorough search about these and it appears that I have CEL waiting for me after I install it. Has Random Tech, or anyone else, come up with a fix for this yet? Also, will the CEL effect driveabiltiy? I've got a MY01 with Cobb street cams, AEM intake, Stromung cat-back, and S-AFC. These mods have left my stock cats burnt up and rattling terribly, and I don't have a competent exhaust shop within 50 miles, so I'm kind of stuck with the Random Tech, and I don't really want to go back to stock since it only lasted a year.

You have identical mods to me except (+ headers) i dont have the s-afc. I have heard nothing but great things about the random tec cat, nice easy install, good gains and it should last a lot longer than the stock ones. I would get it if $ allows. I bought a replacement hi-flow (race tecno) cat that I have to weld in to my pipe this weekend, it was 140 cdn$. I would ahve gotten the random tech in a heart beat though.....

The random tech cat will have no affect on driveability. The CEL comes on to indicate that the cat(s) aren't operating up to par, but this won't have any affect on performance. As for your stock cat going south, it seems like you might be running pretty rich. If an engine runs too rich, unburnt fuel can build up in the cat and then explode, destroying it over time. I'd make sure your SAFC settings are doing their job.

How many miles do you have on the car currently? It seems I'm experiencing the same thing. I've got ~35k and the cats are shot. Mods are ganzflo, borla's, and rallispec catback. I'm pretty sure the car has been running rich as I get a lot of backfire.

I've been debating the random tech or trying to find a stock one from someone who has done a header back. Looks like I'll probably be ordering a random tech monday morning.

I've got just under 30k on it. I ordered a mileliminator from Pony Express to cure the CEL. I figure it's running pretty rich, but I don't want to lean it out any more, it's already averaging -12%.
