Default Fuel trims & SSM probing


I have a UK '98 phase2 2.5 NA Legacy BH9 with JECS ecu. If I were to drop a cat/centre box, get more air through the intake and o/c the ECU by 2.5% will the LTFT's compensate the fuel map from the closed loop running? Or will that push beyond the limit of their scope and throw a MIL?

How do I check (obvioiusly can't after o/c ing) the fuel trims lambda etc. I've read from searches that the SSM provides this data. How do I read the SSM data? I work for an automotive ecu company so have stacks of obd, kwp, can etc communication equipment but have yet to read SSM.
