In the manual to my cosworth motor, it says to use Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50. I'd trust their advice.

Most people use synthetic, the weight depends on your bearing clearances, weather, and driving style.

I always ran Rotella 15w40. Tried rotella synthetic 5w40 when it was really cold out.

Yeah ron at Raw 1 recommended Rottella 15w40 which comes in mineral, blend and full syn. FYI this is diesel engine oil with special detergents for the diesel soot... maybe ron recommends this because of all the blow by we have, just a thought.

THE ONLY OILS YOU USE HAVE TO BE SAE-SL RATED....
If not, foghettaboutit.... Cheapest SAE-SL oils: AUTOZONE brand orange bottle 10w40 PEAK brand 10w40 Chevron DELO 400 (diesel oil in gallon jugs only usually-- (NOT THE LOW EMISSION VERSION labeled DELO 400 LE) Rotella T IF YOU FIND IT IN the SAE-SL rated version of the oil.... do not use the SM version.... Expensive but good oils: Amsoil Royal Purple Joe Gibbs Racing Mineral and Synthetics (more ZDDP than any other oil) Rotella T 5w40 SAE- SL rated only (not all of it that you find is SAE-SL, some is SM) I don't care for blended oils, and the above oils are what I recommend usually... I also don't recommend any oils lighter grade than 10w40 for built engines... which usually run more clearance than stock engines, therefore, they require a thicker viscosity oil.... The JOE GIBBS RACING oils are absolutely the best oils I have ever seen or used in built engines.... They are the nastiest smelling and stickiest-slickest oils, whether using the synthetic or mineral oils... I use the Rotella 5w40 FULL SYNTHETIC in my stock engine with 157,000 miles on it, and it works great..... again, it comes back to clearances and ambient air operating temperature along with the average oil temperature operating ranges |

Rotella T 15w40 seems to be the best oil for me.
