Default Who in NE OH should I go to? Who is not taking me for a ride

I posted this story over in the general tires and brakes section. Any Ohio help is much appreciated.

I'm not a motor head so please excuse my ignorance.

I just got back from my car dealer after having done the fuel valve recall on my '06 Impreza Outback Sport. I also had an oil change and tire rotation. In the process the dealer came back and said that the brakes that I had replaced were put on incorrectly by the last shop and it would cost $49.95 to fix. The rear breaks also needed to be cleaned and adjusted for $49.95. I also had to have a pollen filter replaced. The bulbs around the license plate were apparently also out and had to be replaced for $39.95.

I have just over 49k miles on the car. I can understand the pollen filter. I can even get the light bulbs (reluctantly) but I just don't understand the brakes. I had the brakes replaces at the end of August by Firestone.

When I contacted Firestone, they informed me, had the brakes been put on wrong I would have definitely noticed it and it would not have taken until today (Feb 9) to feel the change. Brakes only go on one way they claimed.

When I called back my dealer (smoke rising out of my ears) they said, yes there was a wrong way to install them and it would effect a sensor and that would function properly and so on.

Who is in the right here? Did I get taken for a ride? I just don't understand every time it appears that when I go for a simple oil change I wind up spending over $200 for service

On top of that, apparently my oil head gasket is leaking and needs replaced. This is covered under warranty, but since they have to take it apart anyway now of course I could have a bunch of stuff replaced for only the cost of parts. The dealer suggests $375 in parts: water pump, timing belt, v belt, etc. They also don't cover a rental car or have a loner.

All these parts don't offically need to be replaced at the earliest at 90k miles but are checked at different intervals. I also think this is another chance to suck money out of my wallet.

BTW the shop I went to was Ganley Westside Imports in N. Olmstead OH.

I've set up an appointment with Cascade Subaru in Cuyahoga Falls OH (they have a loner for free), so if there are any subuie owners that have been ripped off from them, please speak now!

I am going to suggest that you join and post this over on lersoc - www.lersoc.com - a local NE Ohio Subaru board with very helpful members. Someone will certainly be able to help you out with repairs or at the very least give you a bona-fide opinion about local dealers.

I cannot speak about Cascade (though they do give discounts to lersoc members for parts), but I would avoid Ganley Westside like the plague.

I *HATE* Cascade with a passion. Their techs are really good at what they do but they get paid by the hour so they try to milk your service for as long as possible. The service desk and management is miserable, don't even bother complaining if you have an issue with the service. You know that attitude/mindset that comes with a Porsche owner? Well, they're a Porsche dealership and it runs rampant throughout the place.

Plus to top it off, I have witnessed their car wash kids (on multiple occasions) enjoying the fun factor of these cars a little too much on the trip from the car wash back to the parking lot.

I switched to Park Subaru (Akron, Arlington exit on 77) the second they got their Subaru agreement signed and have been very pleased.

Do not go to Cascade Subaru! I have had nothing but problems with them. I bought my turbo from them only because they were the only dealer with the one I wanted. I have taken it to them twice for maintenance. They leave the vehicle filthy. They do not always perform the service you paid for. They even scratched my paint twice and denied it. The first was highly visible on the drive side door near the handle. The other on the hood where the release is found. I spotted them immediately upon walking up to the car to drive home. I do not trust them and I advise anyone else to do the same.
