Default NASIOC scam artist BUSTED and CONVICTED !!!!!!!!!

MAJOR UPDATE 5-10-2010 (read the bottom of this post - letter to the chief)

(original post)
A few months ago, I was scammed (along with several other members here) by a member named "STiKindaGuy".
I was taken for an STi steering wheel, other members were taken for wheels, a turbo, and many other items which we all paid for an never received.

I took it upon myself to go after this guy and started doing some research.
I found out which chapter he frequented, posted up a notice on that forum and within a few hours got a reply which pointed me in the right direction for who this guy really was.

Armed with that information, I started sending PM's to all the other members I could find who replied to the for sale threads this scammer (StiKindaGuy) had posted, and I asked those members for some personal information which I then forwarded to a detective in this guys home town.

That detective and I worked together over the next several weeks putting together as much information as we could gather, and today I am happy to report that I received the following email from Detective Sean Lundry up in Oregon:

"I wanted to let you know that I have arrested and charged Chance Graham in relation to this case. He was charged with two counts ID Theft, one count of Theft 1, and Computer Crime. All of these are felonies in Oregon. He will most likely be going to prison for a period of time based on his past criminal convictions. He was using Riggs name without his knowledge. If you want to pass this on to the other victims in this case, by all means do so. If you have any questions feel free to call or e-mail. Thanks for your assistance"

I just thought I would pass along how a little due diligence and, willingness to do some footwork resulted in a scammer being nailed to the cross.
I feel good about this, I hope that guy gets the book thrown at him, because including myself, he scammed Nasioc members out of more than $7,000.00 total.
Hopefully for him......it was worth the year or 2 he will spend watching his back in federal prison!

BIG UPDATE BIG UPDATE BIG UPDATE

I just received word from the DA's office that they are going to charge Graham with ten counts ID Theft and six more counts of Aggravated ID Theft. Just thought you should know that this is getting dealt with. The ID Thefts are C felonies and the Agg ID Thefts are B felonies.

***MAJOR UPDATE MAJOR UPDATE MAJOR UPDATE*** 4-23-2010

Here is an email I received from Detective Sean Lundry today !!! hahah this guy got what he deserved.

"Graham pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 21 months in state prison. Not as much as I hoped for, but should give him enough time to think about what he did. He has also been ordered to pay back all the money to Paypal. Figured you'd like to know the outcome and hope you are happy with it. Call or e-mail with any questions."

5/8/2010 - LETTER WRITTEN TO THE CHIEF OF POLICE

In closing this chapter of our ordeal, I though it prudent to write the chief of police (detective Lundry's boss). Below are the contents of that letter:

Chief Waterbury
The Dalles Police Department

Dear Chief Waterbury,

I am writing this letter to express my sincere appreciation, for the hard work and dedication that Detective Sean Lundry exhibited in the pursuit and conviction of Chance Graham.

It must be obvious to you that Detective Lundry is in a league of his own, but it is important that you hear it from me, in writing, so that you may pass this along to other officers if you see fit.

I was one of the many people Chance Graham victimized, and while my loss was small compared to some of the other people involved, it was a loss none the less, when you are a victim, you are a victim***8230;.. The pain is real.

Detective Lundry is a class act no doubt, and your department should be proud to have a team member like him on board.

Far too often in these situations, the outcome is much less satisfying. The police are overloaded with crimes that are far more "important" and the victims of these lesser crimes walk away frustrated with no resolution.

It is absolutely a major victory for people like me, as well as the thousands of other members of the North American Subaru Owners Club (nasioc.com), and we have Detective Sean Lundry to thank for it.

I kept the forums updated with the progress Detective Lundry was making, because he kept me updated, every step of the way, and when I received the email that Chance Graham had been convicted, I posted that information online and the feedback was unanimous. Everyone was blown away that Detective Lundry stayed the course and nailed this guy.

Please share this with the rest of your department, I speak for over 100,000 members of our enthusiast community, the work your department did, with Detective Lundry's dedication, has undoubtedly made buying, selling and trading parts for the cars we love a much safer proposition, particularly since there are guys like Sean Lundry out there who have our backs.

It is a really nice feeling.

It just constantly amazes me how anyone could ever kill, steal, lie, cheat, etc.

I'm not a saint but damn how can some people live with themselves and have no conscious? I'm glad to hear that jacka$$ got what he had coming!

I am more impressed with the local police actually following up on this! In countless forums, I have read about people getting scammed, doing all the legwork and then essentially delivering the perp to the police, who tell them to file the paperwork, get in line and proceed to ignore the entire process.

Kudos to OP and Detective Lundry for tracking this guy down and getting him off the internet!

I absolutely sent the detective a thank you, but I am going to take it one step further and actually write a letter to the chief of police in The Dalles Oregon commending the officers performance.
It is actually nice to see justice served, but more importantly, if WE as a community show this kind of determination whenever something like this goes down, it will potentially slow down the other douche bags out there.

Thanks for the kind words, but I did it for ALL OF US.

To answer the question about money back, I actually received a refund from PayPal almost immediately.
I stuck with this to see it through to the end for the rest of us.

Wait to see which charges stick before you get too excited.

You may want to find out which Assistant District Attorney the case has been assigned to (the Det. will know) and write him or her a letter and ask what you can do to help. Often with cases where the victim/witness is remote, charges will get dropped because of the difficulty of obtaining usable evidence.
