Default swap 2.5 and a/t from an 01 outback into a 99 outback

hey all, i just wanted to get a bit of info before the weekend of wrench turning........... i'm a big tacoma guy, and this is the first car i've ever owned... i bought a 99 legacy outback LTD that was stolen, and unfortunately it is beat, the tranny slips and the engine has blown hg's and overheats quickly and also knocks real bad...... Bought it cause i just sold my monster tacoma and needed some good winter wheels to get around town in..... but so far it's left me high and dry

So i bought a beautiful parts-only 01 outback that also was stolen, but runs totally mint, and i wanna pull the engine and tranny and drop it into my 99 so i have some transportation again, from the reading i've had time for, my best bet is just to pull the intake manifold off of the 99 and put it onto the longblock of the 01 and use the 99's ecu and electronics over again ????.........

also i haven't looked really into how these engines come in and out yet, do you pull them out the top or drop it out on a subframe out the bottom? and since i'm doing the tranny too (i'm hoping it's the same and will bolt in) should i just pull the engine with the tranny and put them in as one piece, or individually???

p.s. i'm a remote start installer and work on new subaru's everyday so anyone with wiring q's - i can set you up with all the info you need!
