Default iPhone-Linked Mini Connected Will Debut at Geneva

At the Geneva auto show, Mini will demonstrate several new in-car technologies, including Mini Connected, a special USB connection that allows Apple iPhone users to plug in their smartphones to enhance the car’s infotainment system.
For now, it’s not entirely clear what that link will enable. Obviously, there will be hands-free phone capabilities, as well as allowing the Mini to “speak” to the internet at large. That will enable access to web radio via the iPhone’s data connection. When configured, drivers can stream a selection of web-based radio stations from all around the world. You could listen to German radio while driving in L.A., for example.

Opting for Visual Boost radio yields a color LCD screen in the center of Mini’s trademark dinner-plate central speedometer controlled by a joystick mounted in the center console. Visual Boost is necessary for most of the Mini Connected features.
Also present will be Mission Control, which proffers driving advice “in customary Mini style.” Apparently the system will chastise drivers who hustle the car before it’s warmed up, suggest turning on the air conditioning in warm weather, and more. Mini says this “makes for a continually varied dialogue between the Mini and its driver.”

Too bad the iphone can't tether yet (thanks to AT&T) so it will probably just be a glorified ipod interface as far as that goes.

I don't know about anyone else but I don't want my car "chastising" me or telling me to turn on the hvac. What's next an annoying buzzer when you're 1 mph over the speed limit?
