Default Focus RS

Checking out the new(ish) competition at the first race of the year this season.
Thing sure is quick.
Anyone having to compete against them? Thoughts?

They're quick, but hampered by suspension design and OE shocks. A tune and some suspension bits will make them quicker, but they're still pretty heavy.

The few times I've watched them run I didn't think they were anything special.

Interesting. The driver of this one seems to do pretty well.
I think it's still 100% stock (besides tires) and only a few cars (that have fenders) are besting him. A DSP Focus ST, an SMF CRX on r-comps, an ASP EVO8, etc.
Closest fellow to him in BS is a darn good driver piloting an S2K, about 1/2 to a full second behind.

I guess we'll see as the season progresses. He got it right at the end of the last season I think.

Big fish, little pond then. At the national events I've seen them at they're ok, but the base C5 is better.

When you get a good driver in a reasonable car at the local level, especially if you're running on a smallish lot where AWD and low end torque from a turbo can come into play, then you'll see stuff like that. When you have a bigger course like you'd see at national level events the advantages go away and classing makes a little more sense.

That's why I said big fish, little pond Not being mean, but I've seen a good number of local guys who don't travel much go to a big event once and realize how much more there is

I'd certainly like to get to a big event sometime.
Last season was my first, but the local region guys make a fun event.
Heard the news at the start of the season that a near by city may be able to develop a AutoX specific lot that could be big enough to draw a national event. Super excited.

Me this weekend.

I'm typically upper middle range in STX no issues. 4 out of 10ish.

Went to the Hershey, PA SCCA event this weekend. 75% of the drivers in STX were national level competitors. I came in last. Yep, last.

Humbling, ha.

I rode along in a few RSs at a few events here and was really surprised over the body control the RSs have. Though a bit heavier than the STIs and such, they can handle slaloms like a champ

Here are the results from the 2nd day at Hershey that cmiovino mentioned: http://www.scca-susq.com/latest-news...sults/event-2/
Focus RS on a large lot with a great driver, 2nd overall in PAX with a lot of great drivers in attendance.

Nice big events you guys got there.
Recent results in my region with our local Focus RS guy, he pulled 6th for raw and I think second on PAX. He seems to do very well and we do have a few guys that run nationals and get podiums I believe.
