Default Wrx misfire on all cylinders and more...

I have a 02 wrx and im having cel codes pop up only after the car is warmed up and i sit at a stop light for 10 seconds or more and then get going... I throw cylinder misfire on 1 or more cylinders.. It has a slight low/rough idle and slight hesitation... If I let the car sit for a couple minutes idling it will throw misfires on all cylinders.. I pulled out the intercooler and there quite a bit of oil in it... The turbo has slight shaft play... The oil starts to appear from where the pcv pipe runs into the intake.. I replaced the pcv valve and it helped some... Im guessing it might be a bad turbo seal, but would that cause a misfire on all four cylinders? Please help.. Id hate to buy parts that I dont need..

Have you changed your spark plugs lately? Bad spark plugs or coil packs can cause misfires.

Do a compression/leakdown test to rule out valves. Sounds suspiciously similar to what my 03 was doing before I burnt a valve. Or it could be the flywheel, I've heard that even the ACT is a bit too light.

Yea i read up on that to... that it might throw a misfire code... but i had it installed over 8 months ago and never had a cel code for a misfire until a week ago.. Now its everytime I drive the car to work.. which is 4 miles away.. im goin try the compression test and see what that brings up... if not the only thing that i can think is wrong with it is the turbo spittin oil into the engine...

That is some good common sens info. Like the whole spark plug gaping, that is a hug factor if you think about it.

Also if the valve clearances are too tight I belive you will start to get missfires. The bugeyes ECU's were plagued with misfire sensitivity. There were like 6 ECU revisions for the 02.

Think of it as updating firmware for a device. Obviously if there were problems or better setting were found then a company comes up with an "update". The AF426 was the last revision for the 02 WRX.

Bummer. I had a bad valve on mine, and had it rebuilt at RAW Performance www.raw1performance.com but I think there's a shop in Chicago, P&L maybe?
