Default Juneau, AK Thread

I see Plenty of Subaru enthusiasts around Juneau but haven't seen much on the forum from anyone in particular. Figured I'd make this thread to give Juneau Residents a place to gather.

If anyone sees me around town say hello. I love to work on subarus in general and would be willing to lend a hand where needed. I think I might have the only significantly modified forester here in town.

Just a few things about my foz:
TD05-20g/AEM intake/Perrin inlet/EL Headers/Uppipe/Full Exhaust/1000cc injectors/Walboro 255lph pump/Custom Tuned/Swift Springs/WRX Gauges.

I road tune so on occasion it may appear that i'm driving like an idiot with a quick takeoff through 2nd gear. It's probably me doing a log. I don't dare use 3rd gear here which is what I normally log in but hitting redline at 120mph isn't the best idea.
That's the highlights.

I got forced into cutting off a fellow subaru owner driving a white 04ish wrx. Id like to apologize. I was stuck behind a car that kept stopping in the middle of the street for no reason in a 40mph zone and blasted around him right into a merge zone and had to find a spot. Wasn't trying to be a jerk.

Hey bud don't live in Juneau right now, currently active duty but know quite a few guys that are in town with some subarus. Coming down this holiday season to do some shoots, rig, rolling and still if you're down.

I've seen you. Assuming there aren't many black evos here lol. Nice car. Say hello if you see me as well. There aren't any foresters that look like mine either. Id love to check out the evo. Awesome cars. My buddy had an evo IX that he was running e85 in pushing 530whp.

Which wrx was yours. Seems like i see the same ones all the time.

Also, have you seen that little blue srt4 neon? He's got plenty of stickers. Sounds like it could be a pretty fast little car.

it was a 04 wrb wrx with white painted oem wheels. brought it down from anchorage and then sold it when I left Juneau a couple years ago

That was you then. Definitely an evo x.

Itll be hard to spot me since it seems the most popular cat in town is a Forrester. Mine is the only one I've seen with exhaust though. I've also got XTi emblems front and rear with a jdm Forrester f on the back. You'd recognize me if we were side by side. I'm blacked out mostly and have gold rims.

Yeah there's not as many. Thanks. I'm almost done tuning the 20g and hope to have 360-380whp at the end. It's doing well so far. I think I've been beside your or close at a few stop lights.

What do you do up here? I'm USCG.

I do much of it myself with a cobb accessport and their program. I'm also working with a guy who does etunes out of NY. He does evos as well. I drove up here on a td04 cause I was waiting on my 20g to cine back from being checked for issues. I had an 18g before that but had to stick the sick td04 on for the trip up cause I had already did the 18g.

Sure would be fun to upgrade your turbo and throw some extra power out of that thing. I'd be willing to help. I have all necessary tools and garage space I'd needed.

I've done 5 turbo swaps on my car since owning it. Put a built motor in as well as injectors and the works.

Tesoro has 92 octane. I haven't seen much difference from 93 down south.

tesoro 92 knocked worse then the cheap 90 from safeway, i found mikes airport to knock less then anything else. i tried every fuel station.

i plan on bigger turbo. got everything else basically besides injectors and fuel pump.

my logs were horrible on the 92

i work at the mine although im leaving town later this month but still will work up here.

Odd. Was your tune off the shelf? I've had no issues from the tesoro by super bear.

Ill keep mikes in mind though.

My tuner is a vendor on here. [email protected] is his email address if you need a contact for a good tune. He also had the best prices on anything you would want including the injectors and pump. He was running 2000cc boschs on his evo with e85.

Alot depends on the tune too though. When I had my 18g running max timing possible on pump gas it was super picky cause I was right on the limit. When id go to certain stations in tx it would run terribly.

If you have tune tweaking power you can drop out a half psi or so and just a touch of timing to make things right. Taking a little of both keeps it from seeming like a huge drop than just pulling timing or boost.

same tune switched to another station that had 90 and my knock count went away though. 90 octane should of made it worse and not better. but idk, e85 would be nice to have here lol. could of been what was in their tank when i filled up too, i never went back so cant really say i guess.

Yeah since the suppliers all come through the same tank farms here it could have been a bad batch too. Who knows. I ran e85 for most of the time I had the 18g. When I found out I was coming here and had to go back to regular gas I bought the 20g to compensate. Im about even with where I was with e85 on the 18g. If I go back somewhere with e85 it'd be sweet. I think I could make about 420whp on this turbo at about 26psi. Im only running 21psi now.

Nice. I was running higher on my 18g as well. 23-24ish. The volume is much higher on this one so 21 psi in this one is about the same as the 23-24 on the smaller one.

I think your stock turbo can get into the high 300hp range on good pump gas and mid 400s on e85 but that's pushing it hard. Its a beasty turbo for sure.

It's amazing the differences that come from the 2 engines in similar turbos. Yours is slightly smaller but it's only having to fill a 2.0 litre volume whereas mine has to fill 2.5 litres. Your engine is tuned more aggressively in a stock configuration than mine would be too. They're two different beasts.

Sounds awesome. It's aggravating to have to get rid of something you put that kinda time into. The evo has much more potential though. The block and internals last longer with more power etc ...

Yea, will see how it holds up. It already has all the basics on it, upgraded intercooler and pipes, test pipe, catback and intake.

Nice. I'd love to check it out sometime if we ever get the chance. I haven't had a chance to really look at the evo powerplants.
