You have to rotate the flange too.

I had a WRX backbox welded up to a custom 2.25 midpipe at my local Midas. Total price including the exhaust(got it for $50) and installation was $200. Looks stock too!

The exhaust is definitely louder and it was annoying the first day of driving it around(I have an a 45 min commute to work) but after awhile I barely notice it. As for any performance increase its probably minimal as the WRX exhaust is not a high flow exhaust. Maybe 1-2 hp? More?

Get a WRX backbox from someone selling it cheap and have a muffler shop weld up a midpipe. That's what I did.

** Make sure the weld HD hangers in the OEM locations and remove/remount the one on the top of the backbox so you don't get any unwanted movement in the midpipe. ** The place that I got mine done @ cheated and put a strap around the midpipe and shot two self tapping screws into the floor pan. I removed them and haven't gone to another place to get it fixed.

Decent sound IMO.
