Default Need some Cold Intake Pics to guide me!

Alright, I need some help. I bought a cold air intake for my 2001 Impreza RS. Problem: I don't know that much about cars, but I am trying to learn. I'm not going to crap out either and not do it myself (I know it is really easy, but the damn thing didn't come with any directions or Pictures). Does anyone have pics of their engines with a cold air intake on them? That is my first question. Second, When I'm taking out the factory stuff how far up do I go? Do I just go to the arm where it detaches before it gets to the air Box, or do I take the whole thing out, i.e. all the black plastic filter unit (from the front of the car by the left headlight (looking into the motor) all the way to the back of the block). If that is the case, that looks like I'm taking half the engine out (I know I'm not, just a figure of speech). Again pictures of your set-up and hook up, if you've got it will help a bunch, or if you have any advice. Thanx in advance.

I've got an OBX racing intake system. The bent aluminum piece is about 2-2 1/2 ft. The picture below is really tiny but that is what I had to do to import it because all the other pics were to big.

Here is mine, it's an AEM similar to yours. Take your time taking the stuff off, don't break anything.

What do some of you think about intakes like these? Just curious. And have you gone to the cobb website? I did today for the first time. Kick ass, lots of mods I'd like to do there. Cheers!

Suby2.5RS Just like bomber said, "Remove everything up to the throttle body, dont' break anything. I'm going to point out, "Don't throw anything away or lose anything either. Some hoses, screws, and clamps are reused when you install the new intake. It's super simple to install one. If it's a short ram, like the AEM, it's even easier. If it's a cold air intake, the filter will sit inside the fender. If it sits inside the fender, you have to remove the wheel and remove the plastic covering the inside of the fender. There are a bunch of screws and tabs to remove though. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask for help if something doesn't jive with the install.

obyone,

Thanks brother! It is a short ram. You guys have helped me way beyond what I was expecting. I felt really, well I don't want to say stupid, but what the hell, because of my lack of knowledge when it comes to all this sheeeot, but you i-clubers have shown me that you can ask any question, no matter how minor or insignificant it may be. I should have become a forum member way before. Thanks again all of you. Peace.

here's the Ingen I got from ILP Performance.

just start unscrewing the air box and everything that connects to it. it'll all come out in one big clump. you'll be left with three hoses that once were connected to the air box and the two mounting brackets that held the airbox up. You can take those off since they will serve no purpose anymore. I'm not sure where your holes are in your intake but you can see where the hoses go in this pic. Also for me to install the filter in the finder I had to remove the passanger wheel and fender lining so i could slip the second pipe and filter into that space. It's not hard at all.

Bill.
