Default light/push bar

heres a light bar i made for my bugeye. i designed it around the premise of being strong enough to not shake when lights are mounted on it, to help protect my FMIC in lil fender benders, and be semi removable, with plans of also mounting a skid plate to it. this current version is made out of some exhaust tubing, and cost me $20 to make. (cost of metal.)

as it sits now, need to mount my lights still and fab a skid plate for it too.

took two 14in pieces of the same tubing and welded them to the sub frame. on the two pieces of the bar that go under the nose i stretched the pipe to slide over its original OD, so the bar simply slides onto the two mounts underneath and bolts secure. there is about 3-4in of overlap that the bar slides on. the setup is strong enough for me to stand on (160lbs)

Not bad. But that exhaust tubing will not hold up to much, not to mention the ground clearance you lost.

I built this one out of 1 1/4 .120 CMDOM tubing. It has taken a beating, and still holds up.

are you going to weld on the brackets for the lights or not mount lights, either way i give you +1. i like the thick bar on it. if i could give you a suggestion i would try to add some support to the top in the middle. sometimes the light bars like to bounce and be noisy, adding a support bar from the middle to around where the horns go is a good idea.

yea i plan to weld some tabs top center and on the bottom as well for my lights. and if they do bounce i will add support, but since i dont plan on adding a lot, or any really heavy lights i hope it wont bounce much. thanks for the props tho

Ya this only happens in dirt or really rough roads.

I highly doubt it would hold up to much... most exhaust tube is 16-18ga, not much more than the thickness of sheet metal. Although it serves as a good light/lite mount. I don't think it would save much in the event of contact.

For the next go arount source out some 1.75x.120 or 1.5x.120 HREW you could keep the weight well under 25lbs and depending on your mounts, actually have a usable bull bar.

thick pipe looks great. I wana try something similar that will mate up with my skid plate. Would you say your set up is strong enough to push back light brush? thats all the strenth i need mine for.
