Default Eye sore scratch on the face of my cd player

Hey guys,

I recently bought a 07 sti cd player from a guy on here for my 05 sti, just for the aux option. Anyways, When i got it, it has a nice size scratch on the face of the plastic where u see what station u are on. I'm trying to figure out a way to remove the scratch but at the same time i dont wanna cause more scratches/swirl marks in the plastic..

I was thinking maybe take a little plastix? or maybe put a little ultimate compound on a applicator pad and rub soft over the area and see if it takes it out?

Any suggestions anyone?

Unfortunately, plastics like that (especially most you find on gauges) are relatively soft and sensitive to all but the mildest of cleaners/plastic polishes. The radio screen should be a little more resilient though. If you do try a plastic polish, I would start with the least harsh solution first and closely monitor the affects. Changing directions of your strokes will also help reveal whether you are introducing more marring and/or if the polish you're using is effective on the existing ones. ....not sure if this helps or not.

just use some 300 grit sandpaper to make it uniform.

I've heard of people using Meguiars Mirror Glaze #17 & #10 for instrument clusters (#17 is a plastic cleaner and #10 is a plastic polish). However, it's been my experience that sometimes you just don't know what will work until you try. If you are looking to get out a deeper scratch, you will most likely need something with some bite. I would cautiously start with the Plast-X and check your work often. I believe Plast-X still has diminishing abrasives so it will become gentler as the product is worked in. ***8230;.the idea is that the product will start out with more bite and as the abrasives break down the cut will become lighter (correcting any scratches left earlier when the product was first applied). Personally, I have several polishes, cleaners and compounds in my cabinets so its usually just a matter of finding the right product or combination when I run into an issue like this. The problem with these interior plastics is that they can vary in characteristics (i.e. hardness, etc.) so its difficult for me to recommend one product/solution that I know ill work. ***8230;I never had to polish the ones in my old WRX or my wife's Forester.
