Default AVO Outback Project starts!

There's always something going on at AVO. There is a lot of small projects ongoing at any time, and then there are some large ongoing projects. This is the start of one of the larger ones.

What we have here is one 2007 Subaru Outback 2.5i with 5MT. It's got... a bit of mileage (182,000 miles!). It feels about as loose as a 48 year old Dallas cheerleader. Definitely been well broken in. But otherwise in good mechanical condition, with a few scrapes here and there and in dire need of a refresh.

So that's where we are going to start. New oil, new filters, and whatever else we will need to do to get this feeling nice a new.

Then it's on to tightening it up, replacing all the worn out bushings and suspension bits so that it feels better than new. Sort of like said cheerleader after 4 months at some expensive plastic surgeons.Getting the handling up to par isn't the only reason we are going to be doing this. This is all because of our end of project goal: Project 2.5i Turbo.

That's right, this will be the base car for our turbocharger kit for all of the newer 2.5i turbo kits. Why this Outback? It's not just because it'll be fun as hell to get a fast sleeper like this going, but because this is basically one of the most common Subaru's on the road.

And, boy, after driving this around for a bit, it needs more power. While this isn't probably the most powerful example available, it's not the worst either. It is also going to be a good test of what putting our turbo kit on to a high mileage engine will be like.

So keep an eye on this space, I'll fill you all in as I go.
