Default Help your motor Purrrr....Agip presents Hello Kitty motor oil for the Japanese market

So its posted on several news blogs across the interwebz, but here it is....

Hello Kitty, having exhausted all traditional venues of cuteness, now dares to go where no cute character has gone before... under your hood. Esso (before they were Exxon) once challenged drivers to "put a tiger in your tank" but times have changed. Today Sanrio suggests we put a Kitty in our crankcase. Yes indeed, Hello Kitty's license holder continues to break down every possible door in a push for world cuteness domination... and now, they're going for your dipstick!

Here's the skinny on Hello Kitty branded motor oil. It seems that Sanrio has partnered with Italian automotive gasoline and diesel retailer AGIP (Azienda Generale Italiana Petroli) to create this snazzy 3-liter can of 5W-30 motor oil. Japanese importer Showa Boeki will be marketing the cans through selected auto dealers by the end of June, 2010. It's not known at this time whether the oil is pink.

The Hello Kitty cans will be priced at 2,980 yen ($32) and though the oil may not make your car run any better, the concept itself should put a smile on most everybody's face. It's a perfect example of off-the-wall marketing that other companies could use to improve their public image. BP, are you listening?
