Default A question about headers (I know, I know)

Ok, so there is the battle between uel and el headers. It is a given that el headers will make more hp than uel headers. My question is will the uel headers gain more over the stock manifold, or is the uel headers strictly for the sound?

I've read that both provide gains over stock, just that one provides more.

Yeah they're both going to be beneficial. You're going to notice the car breathing much better in higher revs which should get you at least a few HP.

I have uels with a trackpipe (no cats) and I def notice an offline power gain and when I romp on it. My gas mileage during daily driving has also improved some.

Now that I have an 01 RS as well as the 07, I understand why people like the sound so much. That being said, the stock manifold is coming off and EL OBX headers are going on. More power to be made.

Another point is that they don't just "breath better" (this suggests that the exhaust is more free flowing), they have a better length for the primaries which offers the magic of pressure wave scavenging. The p-wave of one cylinder shows up at the collector and sucks the next wave along with it providing better scavenging! That is what headers are supposed to do and why you can't just weld some tube stock together and hope for gains. There is math and fluid dynamics and PFM happening there.
