![]() *This thread is not to bash any shops/vendors or individuals-- individuals and business alike are feeling the impact of the poor economy.*
The only thread I have seen reviewing this vendor in the (Vendor Review Section) is from 2009 and the only poster was the OP. So, with that out of the way, has anyone had any experience with this vendor? Has PRE saved you money on parts or labor compared to the other competition in the northwest? I asked an acquaintance of mine, if he has any experience with them, all he said is that they overprice/charge. But, he couldn't name who he heard that from, or what they did overcharge for. Any feedback would be great. Oh and if it helps, the work I'm inquiring for is engine and transmission swap, but I'm more concerned about the transmission installation.

![]() Yeah there know for open source tunes and bobby is good, and they have good prices on parts. But for installs the guys who do there installs are not the best, one of my buddies just had a clutch done there, and his bolts where all loose around the tranny and one fell off on the freeway, so that is not good. I also had some issues 2 of my bolts on my down pipe I had to replace, because they cross threded my bolts on my car and had to hammer them off and replace them. Also my o2 sensor on my exshaust was screwed in sideways on my header I had them install. The only reason I found out was because carr subaru replaced 2 pistons and wrote it dowm on my check out slipp. I do know they have some new guys there that need a little TLC on the installs, but if bobby did the installs I am sure it wouldnt be that way...

The crew there are pretty smart. Between Eric, Zach, and Bobby I think they are the best, cant forget about Jason, he is probably the most knowledgable. They just brought in a new guy from a Subaru dealership and I watched him work on removing my tgvs and he seems really smart too. I trust all of them 100 percent with my car... |

![]() I've never had them install anything but they have good prices on parts and Bobby is a great tuner. I know several people with custom tunes that are very happy.

If that is true they better be rechecking there work then. not trying to put them down or anything, but it doesnt look good when stuff like this is happening. I have heard other stories as well but these do need to be addressed. Mabey when they worked on your car they rechecked everything. I am not saying not go to them, but I will not have them put stuff on my car until I start hearing positive quality work done, am I wrong for that or is it ok to have bolts fall off a car?? I will go to pre and buy parts, and have my car tuned but that is it. I do know they are all certifed down there which is good. If I do have parts put on I will make sure bobby personally puts them on This is my opinion and stuff I know has happened, and I am not on here to put down any shops. I will give you my opinion about every shop since I have been to them all, and I am very upfront with no bs, for those who know me you know I am upfront lol.. ![]() Hands down they (PRE) are the most experienced in the area. They have been around longer than any other shop.
The labor costs may be high, but put in perspective they are still the cheapest of the three/four other performance shops that specialize in Subaru's. I trust them, and have used both PRE and Surgeline for my car. Nothing bad to say about either of them. Get a quote from each and go from there. You wont be disappointed either way. |

![]() I have been dealing with Jason from when he first set up his shop.
First off, the are HONEST, even if you don't want to hear what they are saying. Second, his part pricing is always great. Even if the parts are super hard to find. Third, they have one of the best teams in town, and so they are always very busy. This means, that if you would like them to work on your car, it will not be cheap. They are in high demand, so why work for discount rates. |

Before my husband worked there, we were just customers, Jason treated me as a person and not just some girl with stupid questions about a car she knew nothing about. Bobby and I had PRE work on our 03 Civic and our 99 Integra. (yes, we owned hondas before our subarus lol) This the main reason why I told Bobby this is where I wanted my Honda worked on. He (Jason) worked with us on prices and made sure I was happy with my car. He even answered ALL My Questions I had, no matter what. This made me feel comfortable with PRE. Jason was always honest! He would look prices up for me and even call me back with info he had. I appreciated that alot. THANK YOU JASON! We went to Several local shops and no one treated us like Jason. So, before Anyone says I'm bias because Bobby works there... I will say again, this was how I was treated before Bobby worked there. Yes I agree Bobby is a good tuner and he has built both of our Subaru's (rwd wrx drag car, and full sti swapped forester). -Jen- Last edited by SONIC_03WRX; 07-20-2010 at 09:36 PM. |

![]() Thank you to all that has commented on our shop at PRE (positive and negative alike). With out your reviews we can never improve ourselves, so believe me or not it really is important to hear when people say they are less than satisfied with any aspect of the daily operations at PRE.
Quality control is very important and I am truly sorry some of you have had some recent issues with installs done on your cars, but I can assure you we are always willing to do what it takes to make it right for anyone that has any issues. Moving forward I feel that for a short period of transition with the new addition of our technician Erich I might have to start doing some quality control inspections just to insure the jobs are leaving in a manner that is required by us as a company. If you have any questions please ask me I am always willing to answer questions for you. Thanks- Bobby |

![]() I can not say enough good things about PRE, I have been taking my car there for 3 years now. Jason is a very fair, knowledgable guy who has done more than i ever expected a shop would do. Bobby is the most amazing tuner i have heard of around this area. The 2.5 and sti tranny swap were done flawlessly. I had one issue with a faulty PART and it was addressed and taken care of right away! Masterfull tunning, Great people, Great customer service, Great prices and the top quality parts = my buisness forever! Thank you PRE for all your hard work.

![]() I'm no psychiatrist, but when someone doesn't look at you in the eye and looks down at the ground, while speaking to you, that speaks a lot for their character; that's all I'll say about the owner. Bobby on the other hand I have met and is a great character and very knowledgeable, his passion for what he does and you see it in the the results.
I admit I haven't been to their other competitors shop. But I wasn't impressed with their cleanliness and organization in the store front and inside the garage. No parts in the garage were tagged with what part goes where (info simple as customers name and car). Do people make mistakes, yes..why? Because of human error, what can prevent this, accountability simply tagging parts so that accidentally they don't get installed or sold (as a used part) to another customer. Halls |

![]() I've dealt with PRE before and I have a cousin who still goes there regularly because they stock a lot of parts and has built a relationship with Bobby and Jason.
Jason has told me before, to not be scared away by their higher(er) prices, that there is not a more knowledgeable Subaru shop n the Portland area and that their support and backing is top notch. Okay, I'm all for supporting local business, but their prices were significantly higher than other places (mostly online, I was looking at exhaust I believe at the time). When you feel the need to get defensive about your prices, it says a little bit about the shop. I was turned off by the clutter everywhere. My cousin has spent a lot of money with PRE. We went down to pick his car up one time. On the drive home, the car started breaking up horribly and wouldn't run at all. Long story short, we ended up pushing the car through a busy intersection in Gresham into a parking lot. After hours of tinkering and waiting for a ride, it turned out the ground on the intake manifold was loose. My cousin has found several other bolts loose from their work, too. A stupid mistake and we paid dearly. To say Bobby is hands down the best Subaru tuner in the area is somewhat a slap in the face to other reputable shops in the area, namely Tim Baily of Surgeline Tuning. There is a reason why Tim develops the AccessPORT tunes for Cobb. After all, people who get their car tuned usually get it tuned just once for their setup. Who can say that another shop isn't equally skilled or could even make the car run/drive even better? To understand what a good tune is all about, it's important for the tuner to explain what the car is doing, how the timing and fuel are set up, and what is left in the setup. Bobby has not personally tuned one of my cars, but talking with other people, they (the owner) don't know what's going on with the car. The car is simply turned over back to the owner with a simple, "here, your car is tuned." I've dealt with three other tuners who completely disclose what the car was doing, what was left, and gave me the option to push the car further or keep it where it's. Bobby, you probably know who this is, I hope there are no hard feelings. I always like to see local shops succeed and I hope you guys can improve on a few things. Competition is always good. |

![]() PRE did the install and tune of my VF39 swap. That was 3 years ago and everything has been great. I've had 3 different maps made for my car (setup remained the same), by 3 different tuners (including Tim Bailey) and Bobby's map was by far the smoothest and best running in my opinion. He was the only tuner who took his time to get it right, and I did not experience the "close enough, who next" situation like I did with the other tuners.
PRE might be 170 miles from my place, but it's the shop I trust to mess with my car. |

![]() I've been there a few times. The shop had jeff's sti on a life and had a parking lot full of subarus. The shop portion looked clustered and not well organized. I went inside to and was not greeted at all. I was with a few friends and one of them had a competitors shirt on. We got dirty looks from the customers and associates inside. The room was dark and product was dispurst. They do stock a lot of parts in their overhead.
