check timing first, then make sure all the sensors are plugged in.

I just had my passenger side coils out and cylinder 1 (front) was white and cylinder 3 (back) was black, so I think you've got it right.

Sounds like your oil pressure warning switch isn't installed.

Any CEL codes? usually a sensor that you forgot to connect will trigger a code. I always seem to miss the cam sensor behind the oil filler tube. after plugging it in AND resetting the ECU did my car start.

not plugging in the factory oil pressure sensor wont cause it not to start. i took my factory pressure sensor out and replaced it with a defi one for my gauges and so the factory lead just chills in there. it is only a trigger wire to turn the light on in the cluster. now how is it backfiring if it wont turn over?

check your throttle cable - make sure it's not too tight. white smoke just might be residue burning off.

Did you turn it over repeatedly to build over pressure before firing?

Update: got the idle fix the linkage was just too tight but I'm over hating and losing coolant I checked all the symptoms that might point to head gasket sweet smell in exhaust and oil in coolant or vice versa nothing no white smoke at all what could be the prob leaky water pump maybe a leakun the lines also have a miss in cylinder four did plugs might be a coil how oftan do they go bad the coil did go unused for a year

wow you got a lot of problems glad you found the tight cable be sure you check all connections the coolant could be anywhere leaking and no smoke doesn't mean not a bad gasket the best way to check if gasket is to get coolant/hydrocarbonsniffer but sometimes this isn't enough the coil might be bad it most likely isnt since it was still good and hey just don't go bad or subaru would have massive warehouses full of bad parts

LASTLY, Use some type of punctuation. Use the return key to space each sentance if you must!

The only reason I responded, was to really out how painful it was to read your last post. Fix your post and you might get some more ideas and help.

did you fully fill the cooling system...did you burp it? If not that just might be your trouble.
