Default How hard is it...

How hard is it to install an anti-lift kit and what is the best way t go about the install on a GC8? Also do I need to allign the front end after I install it?


Re-Alignment is a MUST!! After installing the ALK, the toe angle changed to Toe-in...not good!!

I have never done one, but I hear its easy to do on a GC8

It's a PITA on the WRX, but it's not as difficult on the GC8 becasue there's less to remove. The Hardest part is getting the control arm bolts loose. It's a straight forward install, but some of the bolts are a pain to get loose.

It was pretty easy. As mav1c said there are a couple of bolts that are really torqued on there but a breaker bar or your foot (if you're just on jack stands) helps a lot. Just make sure you get lots of grease on the bushings when you install them. Pulling the control arm down was kinda tough but I was able to do it by myself. I had to remove the OEM "skidplate" bolts to get the clearance to remove the OEM part.

Depending on where you live you might want to look into the ALK with the "comfort bushing". A bunch of us had some complaints about how harsh the ride can be on sharp edged bumps (which there seemed to be a lot of in San Francisco and Michigan). So Whiteline produced a new bushing expecially for us that had a softer durometer than the regular kit. I installed the softer one (after having the regular one for 6 months) and loved it. OEM comfort levels but with most of the ALK handling improvements.

If you want more detailed info on the kit there was a HUGE thread on the ALK. Just search for Anti Lift Kit. I think I started that thread.

Oh, the best info is in the Modification section up at the top there. There are step by step install instructions for the ALK with pictures.

You should have the car realigned after the install.
