Default MRT Header

I have a question about the MRT header/cat combo. Yes I've done a search and didn't find what the answer to my question, so hear goes. I have a 5 Zigen Fireball cat back, what I want to know is if the headr/cat combo will line up with my cat back exhaust or do I need to get the exhaust lenghened or shortened in any way? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You

yes and no
basically you won't need to use your mid pipe part of the cat back. The MRT header meets it's midpipe at a different location. However, the mid pipe meets the back box at the stock location, so you will be able to use your muffler if you want.

Unfortunatly my exhaust is configured a little differently than most the muffler section is longer than most I've attached a picture of it. I've only purchased the header/cat, not the mid pipe, i knew that the mid pipe that comes in the MRT system would be too long, If anyone knows if my exhaust will bolt on or if anyone has a similar set up and made the mods needed to make it fit, they can post or drop me a line. Thank You

Your midpipe will absolutely not just bolt up to the MRT Header/Cat section. The best thing to do since you have already paid for teh 5zigen setup would be to get the to cut a section off of the mid-pipe and weld on a flange to make it compatible with the mount point of of the MRT Cat. Then everything should work perfectly.

A stock or fits-to-stock back box will bolt to the MRT system. Anything else will not bolt to the MRT system. You can have things welded to fit, but it's not the same thing.

The MRT header/cat combo is much longer than the stock exhaust/cat combo, and so puts the mid-pipe point in a different location. Unless someone has done this exact swap, you'll have to bolt on the MRT system, take your car and your cat-back exhaust to a competent muffler shop, and have the systems grafted together somehow. You will most likely cut both mid-pipes and weld them together somewhere in the middle.

Julian- "Both Midpipes" ?

Giova wrote "I've only purchased the header/cat, not the mid pipe"

So all he will need to do is cut his 5zigen mid pipe where it will meet the MRT cat. Then have a compatible flange welded and he'll be set.

By the looks of that picture the muffler position is about the same angle mount as the Apex N1.

Yes the two are very similar, they both exit at an angle. Well it seem like I have to find a good muffle shop around here, I think there maybe a Lou's Custom Exhaust near by. I hear they have a good reputation for quality work. Thank you for all your input, if anyone else wants to chime in please feel free any and all info is greatly appreiacted.

That exhaust combination is going to make a lot of noise. Not only is the N1 style muffler straight through with no extra baffling but it is very small in diameter and doesn't have very much sound and vibration absorbing insulation.

I hope the law isn't very hyper about enforcing sound ordinences. Then again the cat back is resonated and probably came with a silencer of some sort.

Have Fun

It should be loud, its quite loud now, but I don't think it will be as loud as my old RX-7, that was an NA with headers no cat and straight though mufflers. I never got pulled over for niose (kocking on wood). So hopefully I won't have too many issues.

I'd certainly recomend lou's for any custom work you are having done.
