Default PA: '02 WRX WRB wagon, PPG's, Stage 2

For sale is my 2002 WRX wagon.

Update 3/16/11: I noticed that I have some coolant seepage between the block and head on the right side. I have not seen any bubbles in the overflow or any coolant in the engine oil, so I'm still looking in to this.
But I still need to sell the car and am open to any fair offer.
I'm a full-time student and don't have the time to fix this right now, so it'll just have to sit and wait unless someone wants to offer me the right price!
My starting price was $10K, but given this new problem, I'm open to any fair offer

Update 4/6/11: If I explicitly say I am now asking $8500, will that generate some interest?

I am asking $10,000 OBO. I realize this is higher than what KBB says it's worth, but I am pretty sure they are always wrong about Subaru's. Either way, I figure that's a fair asking price since the KKB value + the transmission = more than that. Feel free to make an offer, I'll check my PM's.

This is long, but for a potential buyer it is nice to have the history.

It currently has 134K miles and just passed PA inspection and emissions.
It is sitting on stock wheels, with Dunlop Winter Sport 3d tires. I had Winter Sports on steel wheels before, and they lasted me 4 seasons, so I went with them again, and after this season, they should be good for 2 more at least. I already bought a different car, so this one probably won't get much use this season.

The car was stock when I bought it from a local dealer at 62K miles in November 2005, I was the 2nd owner. It remained that way until the transmission broke at 87K. Then I had Dan at Andrewtech build a PPG syncro straight cut 1-4 with stock 5th. I changed the gear oil every 15K miles and used Andrewtech's recommended 3 quarts of Redline Lightweight Shockproof and .7qt of Motul Gear300. An ACT heavy duty pressure plate/modified street disc and stock resurfaced flywheel were installed at same time.

Around 90K I installed a heat wrapped and silicon sprayed Perrin uppipe and an Ebay special turbo back, I also flashed the car with Cobb's Stage 2 93 octane map. The Cobb AP Ver2 is included, it just recently got all new internals installed by Cobb, so it is basically brand new.

Also around this time I installed Group-N top mounts, 04+ style in the rear with scooby921 strut spacers, Koni Yellows, and RCE Black Wagon springs. It has been on this same set-up since.

At 104K miles I changed the timing belt, all rollers/guides, the tensioner, and the water pump with all OEM parts. At that same time I installed a Gimmick Motorsports aluminum radiator, Gimmick Motorsports black silicon radiator hoses, black Samco ancillary hoses, and the Gimmick Motorsports fail-safe 170 degree thermostat. I also changed the spark plugs with NGK Iridium IX in stock temperature and checked the compression. All four cylinders were 154-156 psi.

I just installed a new OEM drivers side ball joint, and also got a 42 Autosports refurbished front knuckle with new OEM wheel bearing. That was the only thing needed at my last inspection, which was less than 1K miles ago. All maintenance has been done by me following the Subaru maintenance schedule found here: http://www.subaru.com/content/downlo...02SchedFed.pdf
I have performed all of the work on this car unless otherwise noted, I am an automotive technician by trade, I have an Associates Degree in Automotive Technology. I am selling the car because I recently got laid-off from my automotive research job and have decided to return to school to pursue a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. I will be doing 40+ miles each day needed something more economical/gas friendly. Included in the sale are a few OEM oil filters, since I bought them by the case, and a set of NGK Iridium IX spark plugs, and a new OEM air filter and fuel filter.

The dealership told me the previous owner always changed the oil with Valvoline Synthetic. When I bought the car I switch to Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30, which I changed every 3K miles, using only OEM oil filters. At 112k miles I switched to Rotella T synthetic 5w-40, which I changed every 3750 (Subaru's recommended change time), still only using OEM oil filters. I installed a Fumoto oil drain valve and started to send oil samples to Blackstone Labs at this time. They originally found that I had high lead, but it consistently dropped with each sample. They said that it was most likely a particle streak, and now it is completely back to normal.

The Bad:
The car was keyed about 9 months after I got it. I never got it fixed because a lot of cars in my neighborhood were getting keyed at the time and I figured if I got it fixed it would just happen again, so I just lived with it. They did not key it deep and when the car is clean and waxed you can barely tell it's there. Also, a year ago I was driving through an intersection and a lady ran the red light and scraped my front bumper. She did not have insurance, so I never got that fixed either. It appeared to be purely cosmetic and the original estimate was only to repaint the front bumper. About 3 months ago I had my insurance company re-do the estimate because the front grill clips were all broken and I had to install a bolt between the bumper and fender on the passenger side to keep the bumper from sagging. The grill is currently being held on with zip ties. It doesn't look horrible, the body lines are just a little tighter between the bumper and fender since it's bolted instead of clipped. The car also suffers from rust on the two rear quarter panels between the bumper and fender. As far as I can tell, every daily driven Subaru in PA has some sort of rust in this area, it sucks, and I planned to Por-15 it, but I don't have the time right now. Also, ever since I installed the Gimmick radiator hoses, they have seeped a little, and the car leaks a little coolant. It seems like it just burns off as far as I can tell, so every couple weeks I just check the level and top it off with OEM Subaru coolant. The car was my daily driver so I didn't want to tear into it and have it turn into a big project with lots of downtime, it was easier to just keep topping it off. I think the leak averages about 1 gallon a year. The clock stopped working 2 winters ago, I figured I'd install a gauge pod there, but never got around to it. The CD player just stopped working, but the tape deck and radio still work fine. Also, if you search my name you will see that I have posted every time my car has popped out of reverse. I am convinced that this is not an internal issue, but probably to much flex between the transmission mount and the stock shifter bushings. It hasn't happened in 10+ months, but in the interest of full disclosure I wanted to mention it here.

What more could you want? Cobb Stage 2 reliability and fun with an indestructible transmission!

Make an offer!

Sorry the pics are a little washed out, it was very sunny.

here are pics of the rust on the rear quarter panels and the scuff on the front bumper

Thanks for your interest! Make an offer!

if someone pays $10K i'll include a set of '04 Sti gold BBS rims with Hankook Ventus V12 evo tires, mounted, balanced, and ready to go! I'll also throw in the aforementioned steel wheels with Dunlop Wintersport 3d's that have about 1 season of tread left!

BUMP

You asked. I think the price is high, but let the market speak for itself and if it sells, it sells.

I still have this for sale! I'll entertain any offer!

04ImprezaWRX:
pm me and let me know how much cash, and all the specs on your trans, mileage, year, etc. I'm pretty sure the 04 and 02 trans have different flanges for the CV axles, but I might just be confusing that with the 04 STi. Do you know if your axles are male or female?
