Default NY: Helix DNA coilovers (WRX)

*SOLD*

I decided that this will be the last time I swap my suspension over from summer to winter and will be staying with a spring/strut setup. That means my Helix DNA coilovers are up for sale. I bought them new and they currently have about 30k miles on them. They're nothing fancy and are a low budget coilover that gets the job done. The car was never tracked whatsoever and is strictly a daily driver with about 95% of the miles being highway. The coilovers were removed every fall/winter and swapped out for springs/struts.

The driver side rear column is stuck and I don't have the patience to un-stick it. The height adjustment ring moves freely but the column is somehow stuck so to adjust the height on that coilover you will need to raise or lower the dampening collar. Besides that, they are in work fine and none of them are blown.

They improved handling A LOT and I LOVED the way the car responded on turns. However, I commute about 70 miles per day for work and they're too stiff for me after working a 12 hour day. They're a bit overkill for someone like me. I just wanted them for the looks. lol

They are about $1,000 new. Make me an offer. Open to trades as well (no turbo, exhaust or suspension) especially aggressive wheels.

I just did a quick search and someone is selling a set with a blown strut for $350, and someone else is selling a good set for $700.

First person to give me $600 gets them!!

That doesn't mean $600 shipped to Africa either.

I will take pics of them tonight but some more info and threads about them can be found anywhere on here or by using Google. Some basic info:

Quote:
Helix DNA Sport Coilovers are designed to suit the average vehicle enthusiast. Unlike race coilovers which often exhibit harsh ride characteristics, high cost, and sometimes excessive noise, Helix DNA Sport Coilovers are designed primarily for street service with mild track service in mind. Featuring excellent ride characteristics and lower cost, these coilovers are a fine balance of street function and track service. Fully rebuildable and available in multiple spring rates.

Specs:
- Light aluminum Shock Body
- 16 Pt Dampening / Rebound Adjustable
- Full Upper Pillow Ball Mounts
- Camber Adjustable
- 8kg / 6kg spring rates
Comes with all 4 coilovers (5x100) and a spanner wrench (2 if I find the second one in my trunk somewhere).

General Pics:

My actual car with them on:

I thoroughly clean and scrub them every season and soak them in oil and re-grease them before putting them on. If I have time this week, I'll wipe them down and take more pics.

Pics below in post 24 and on!!

Thanks for the PM's. As far as trades go, I'm not really looking for anything specific. Maybe a set of aggressive 18" wheels? Depending on the trade I'm willing to offer cash on my end also.

Here is a list of mods on my car since most of you are offering me things I already have:

Where are you located? I'm skeptical about trading parts with someone that joined a couple of months ago. No offense.

okay I have a couple more questions. In the cell phone picture, its hard to tell if there is rust of if all of the brown is just dirt. Also what would need to be done to fix the rear coilover and how hard is that going to be?

It looks like a bit of surface rust in the pics. It wasn't there this summer so I'm sure it'll wipe right off. I'll clean them up before I ship them out regardless.

I was told by some people that you can heat up the strut and work at it with a mallet/punch and that will free it up. I also heard that you can freeze them too. I got the height adjustment ring loose, you would just have to loosen up the strut tower itself. I'm sure a shop could do it for you with no problem. I would have it done but I no longer have a need for coilovers.

I'll scrub the coilovers down this weekend and oil them up for whoever buys them. I'll be sure to take more pics.

Ok, so I had a chance to clean the coilovers up and show you guys that I wasn't making it up when I said it should all wipe right off. I used WD40 and a rag to wipe everything down. I'm sure they could look better if you spent some time cleaning them better but they look a million times better now.

You can see some markings where I wrapped the strut in cloth and used a wrench to try and loosen up the struts. All of them except the driver side rear loosened up. Since the spanner wrenches they give you are pretty useless, some of the notches on the rings are banged up from using a mallet and punch to work them loose. It shouldn't make a difference since it's in the middle of the strut and you won't come near the middle when raising or lowering the suspension. It's just cosmetic.

They may not be the prettiest coilovers out there but they work great.
