Default 2011 wrx stability control off button?

So, I see that there is an off button but does it shut everything off? I know ABS can't be shut down but will any of the dynamic stability be left on when that button is pushed and if so is there a way to shut it off completely? I know on my corvette there are 4 modes that you can activate from a similar button ranging from traction and stability on to everything off. Hoping for similar here.

Thanks!

It's either

Stability and Traction control ON - default
Stability and Traction control OFF - press the button

The STI has 3 modes where one is attained by holding the button for x seconds, but the WRX is binary, on or off.

Very cool. I mainly want to make sure it can be shut off. The corvette I have a ritual when I get in that includes holding down the stability/traction control button down for 8 seconds. I hate when my cars do things I don't tell them to do.

Glad subaru left it so you can defeat this. Thanks for the info!

I wonder if the excerpt from the owners manual is talking about ABS still being active even when traction/stability is off? I just drove to work this morning in 4" of snow and turned TCS\SCS off. Definitely didn't feel like anything was working to stop me from doing what I wanted. Obviously ABS was still active for braking tho so I'm guessing that's what it means.

On another note, I wrote this in another thread a little while ago, but on my 2011 WRX, about a week ago, I was sitting at a red light and just for fun, decided to hold the TCS button in (since I hadn't touched it since starting the car, the light in the dash was off meaing that TCS/SCS was on). As soon as I pushed the button and started holding it in, the light in the dash came on indicating TCS/SCS was off. However, after about 10 seconds of holding the button, it blinked off again. The interesting thing is that at this point, pushing it in again does not activate the light again at all. Now, there was another thread talking about deactivating hill ascent assist. It sounds like I may have inadvertantly started the process for disabling hill descent control. If I had pushed the button in again within 5 seconds after the 10 second hold, it should have disabled hill ascent assist supposedly (I didn't push it within 5 seconds so I don't know. Also, I believe I would have to turn off and than restart the car afterwards for it take effect). Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I'm pretty sure turning TCS off in these cars, turns it off completely.

You can't disable hill assist. Only STI's can.

Read the manual, guys.

If the switch is held down for 10 seconds or longer, the indicator light turns off, the Vehicle Dynamics Control system is activated, and the system ignores any further pressing of the switch. To make the switch usable again, turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" position and restart the engine
What you did was turned it off, but then by holding it down, turned it back on and told it to ignore you if you pressed it again.

abs is fine. I just like to be able to slide around and have it do what it should not apply brakes and traction control and such.

Hill assist huh. What the hell is that all about. I need to look into that. Hope it isn'y clutch related. Must apply the brake somehow.

Not being sarcastic but whats the point of that? It would be one thing if u could lock it "in" until you turn that function of yourself (like if your kid is borrowing the car or something) but otherwise, whats the point?

in winter conditions, i've been hitting the button to disengage tc/vdc... it's like driving my old 99 Impreza RS... only abs remains.

Default Tc/vdc

Tonight at the stop light while I had the clutch pedal in and breaks pressed, I pushed the TC/VDC button in my 09 wrx my abs light, tc light, and hillassit light all came on and stayed on. Not to sure what that means.

You can't disable hill assist on a WRX. Also, old thread.

You know I wonder if you could get a switch put in instead of a button, call me lazy but I dont like having to always turn t/c off every time I start my car when I'm getting ready to have some fun.
