do you have a template for 02-07 cars by chance? PS, i liked the look of your 5 door build...despite what some of the idiots in there were bench racing about.

I made some a couple of weeks ago for an 05, so I have the 02-07 range covered. I also bought some iA spacers to try in my car but they were too shallow and the cutout was not large enough, so I used it as something of a template to make some 3/4" PVC ones for my install.

The iAs fit the 02-07, so I could use them as a template for a set for you, if you want.

Thanks for the compliments on my build thread!

I understand that reasoning, but the materials are not cheap (and continue to rise) and it takes 2 different saws (which most people don't have) as well as a drill press and a fly cutter (which most people have never even heard of). It also takes about 15-20 minutes a set, plus setup time.

I am a government analyst by trade (not affiliated with the auto industry or the audio industry), so my time is worth the same amount to me whether I am at a desk or working in the shop at home. If other people value their time less, then they can invest time in making their own, at home. For those who lack the tools, I can do the work for them. Not to mention, the economy of scale for buying the materials to make just one set is not very good. The materials come in 8' lengths and cost more than what I am charging for a set of spacers, and that is WITHOUT accounting for the fabrication time that someone would have to invest to make them.

They CAN be made with some patience and a jigsaw, but they don't turn out this well. I know because I have tried it.

Also, while iA and Kartboy both make them, I have bought both brands and neither one had a large enough cutout for most "premium" 6.5" speakers, nor are they deep enough to allow magnet clearance on anything deeper than the shallow end of the mounting depth range for aftermarket 6.5". Again, I know this because I bought the other brands and tried them and ended up making these myself rather than to modify something that is not right for my application.

They might look a little funny, but I can make the outer shape more round than the iA/Kartboy style, which would allow for any mounting diameter that does not interfere with the stock mounting holes. The set on the far left has a very slight flare that I did freehand, but I have a template that I use. That set on the far left was for my own car, and I could not care less how pretty they look.

I have done them in a 5.75" cutout for my past vehicles. The 3 sets in the pic above are actually 5.625" and I could have flared the mounting circle much further. I have even done up to 5.9" (for a 7" midrange) in a Legacy.

Let me know how your mounting holes match up, when you get these. I got a report yesterday from an 08+ owner that the bolt holes were off a bit, but both Kartboy and iA state that the spacers they sell are universal from 02+. I bought both and they matched up with each other, but I have not had a chance to install my own set to verify fit. the other guy said it was a simple matter of drilling a couple of holes in the spacer (which has to be done anyway to mount the speaker to the spacer), but I would rather drill multiple sets of holes and you use the ones that you need rather then to drill one set of holes and have them not be in the correct place.

I will do all in my power to check these in my own car this weekend and report back.

By the way-

I cut a few more sets by request this week. All of them needed a wider cutout than what iA or Kartboy specers woudl allow, plus they needed more depth.

Because of the wider speaker diameter, I ended up having to do a lot of free-handing, but they came out okay, given the uniquie requirements.

Any speakers with a wide cutout are going to look pretty odd, but I am going for function over form.

PM replied.

I have done some for Focals, but I will need your model number to be certain.

Also, I got 2 more full sets done this weekend. I modified my template a bit to accomodae speakers needing a wider diameter than the regular 5" cutout that most big-box store speakers need.

These look much more consistent because there is no freehanding.

I need a set that fits some Hybrid Audio Imagines, which require a 5.75" mounting hold according to the spec document here.

They will be going into a 2011 sedan and the mounting depth of them is 2 11/16" will these fit with your adapters? Can you help me out?

I have made 2 sets for HATs to go in 08+ WRX/STi models. I don't know which model of HAT mid they were (to be able to give certainty on the mounting depth), but the cutout for them was 5.75" in both cases. Several users on here have used them successfully with the HATs, with one member posting pics in a build thread. Again, I don't know about depth and whether he had to use deadner to "pad" out the speakers, but the diameter worked perfectly.
