Post strange vent problem

I recently purchased a 2k2 Legacy GT... something strange I've noticed happens when running the AC on a speed setting of 3 or 4, in recirc or normal mode. With the higher speed settings, the vents move on their own...

I set the center vents (above the AC controls) to be open and facing forward @ a central height, turn the AC up to 3 or 4, and the vents quickly adjust themselves to point to the left or right. I recenter them, and almost immediately they are pointing to the side... really freakin annoying when it's 110* out...

So, has anyone run into this? I searched a few times and haven't seen any thing remotely near this...

Maybe a screw loose? I'd try taking out the surrounding dash tirm and see if the clasps holding on the vents could be tightend. Mind you, the centre console trim is a biatch to remove. You first have to remove the shifter trim and the trim immediatly left of it. Then there are two screws located under AND behind the console trim. Good luck if you dont have those special short screwdrivers

I know b/c someone accidently dropped a $2 coin in one of my vents and it rattled so damned loudly that I had to take apart the console to remove it.

Hope that helps.

Lightbulb Vents

It's funny that you post this problem now. I just stopped by my dealership today and bitched about my vents moving on their own when the AC is set at 3/4.

In my car (also a 2002 Leg GT) the right vent in the pair above the AC controls moves. The other vents are pretty good about staying put.

Anyway...they don't stock the vents so they ordered the center vent set up (you can't just get one). And of course it's under warranty. Should be a week or so.

Normally I don't complain about little things like this but it is SUPER annoying to have than vent move like that.
