Default Widest tires for +0 on 2002 WRX wagon

I have an extra set of 16" 1998 RS goldies (16X7) that I want to use for the occasional HPDE track weekends. I'd like to put some race tires on, and don't want to roll fenders on my wagon, which is at stock height. I know that +0 is 225/50-16. What wider tire can I use on the wheels that would still fit without rubbing. Any help is much appreciated...thanks in advance.

I wouldn't go wider than 225 on the 7" for the track.

This ^^^. If you're looking for additional grip, can you run r-compounds? I'd suggest doing that in 225/50-16 before looking at bigger tires. Why? You'd need a new wheel (see below) in the very least to put on r-comps in the 245/45-16 size, because they run wider than typical 245's and *will* rub.

It's the rears where you'll run into a bigger issue with the wider tires. I did have 245/45-16 Falkens on my '02 wagon for a bit, but those were on properly sized 16x8 Volk Gram Lights with a 43 offset to move the center of the tire/wheel where it needed to be to avoid rubbing and a rolled fender... and it was *close* on both sides. I don't think you're going to be able to get it done with wider tires on the RS wheels, on the back of your wagon without new wheels in the very least.
