Post How much slower does extra passengers make you?

For example in the 1/4 mile an extra passenger (150 lbs) makes you .5 seconds slower. IS this true? I am skeptical

I heard that for every 100lbs its equivalent to 10hp. I think every 10hp makes you about .5sec faster. I'm not sure though.

This is simple. Motor produces force to the wheels. The force is F=ma. So every moment you push the gas the more mass it slowers your go. So if you car weigths with you driving about 1400kg and you have a nice little sumo guy who weights like 100kg. The amount of your acceleration is reduced by 1400/1500 times the acceleration without the sumo dude. The equation is good even at high speeds where the air resistance is a major force. So your top speed doesn't reduce, but it takes longer to get there. Hope this helps...Might forgot something....

Don't know 1/4 mile times, but after the first couple of trips with passengers, I've tried to keep passengers to a maximum of 1 I was amazed at the difference.. 2 other people, and it seems like a totally different car..

Yea, put two passengers in your car and it can get kind of embarrassing. I'm assuming it would be worse with most other cars though.

I know for sure the extra pasengers will slow you down in turns. I almost lost it once cuz I was taking a well known turn at my usual high speed and the tires started pushing hard with the passengers in my car.
