Default Odd startup issue

I searched but didn't see anything that described what I'm experiencing on my 2002 OBS. Car has 270,000 on the chassis but about 40,000 on a new motor. I live at just under 9,000' in Colorado and, recently, on colder mornings (probably below 20) is when I'm noting the issue. The motor will crank a touch slower due to the cold but the car really does start up pretty quickly. Immediately, the car will idle at maybe 1,500. This is normal for this car in colder temps and after it's warmed up the idle drops to about 500. The issue is that it will fall on it's face and act like it's going to die. The idle will drop way down for a few seconds and it'll buck and get cranky and then it jumps back to 1,500 and is fine. I go back in and let it warm up for 5-10 minutes and life is fine. It also only does this when it sits overnight. Never after work. If I'm sitting in the car and give it more gas it's not as bad. Found some stuff about possible water vapor freezing near the fuel pump and creating an issue so I considered running some Heet through it but I also wondered about the temperature sensor. Any Ideas?

So your saying this only happens when the car has been off for a while right? I've seen a wrx once that before it was warmed up would stay at about 1.5k then drop down to about 200-300 almost shutting off then back up and keep doing that till it was warmed up, not sure if yours is the same problem

try cleaning your maf and iac motor. This may help and is good maintenance anyways.

I don't drive this car much because I always feel bad starting it up in the winter to make the 3/4 mile commute to work and I finally got time to have a look at some stuff this morning. I removed the IACV and it was super clean. I think I had it off a year or so ago and cleaned it then. I cleaned it and inside the throttle body where it mounts again anyways. Feeling kind of stupid but where is the MAF?

I knew I wasn't going crazy. This car does not have a MAF. It does have a MAP though. I cleaned that. We'll see how it is tomorrow morning.
