Default Buying a vehicle in TX

I may be buying a used pickup. As my brother lives near Austin, been thinking about looking in TX because no road salt.

Normally in MA I'd have to submit a title application, registration application and wait for plates. But in other states there are temporary plates or the plate stays with the vehicle.

The "MA Way" I'd probably have to go down, buy the truck and leave it at my brother's, then fly home and back to get the plates.

So how does it work for an out of state buyer in TX?

Generally the seller and you sign the back of the title and then you will have to get the vehicle re-registered in the county you live in. Plates are then mailed to you in a couple weeks. I know in order to get the vehicle registered you need to pass a state inspection first.
