Anyone able to chime in on the shift lock release doing this with the CVT?

Lastly, has anyone tried driving around full time in normal conditions and having the dash VSC button pressed? I tried last night for the hell of it, and the car felt different. A little more nimble. Less hesitant. More fun. And downshifted a little snappier. Overall, it seemed to drive how the CVT should all the time. Maybe I'm thinking things and the car was just running really well last night?? Anyone else try this? lol
My clutch and gas pedal feel a little more responsive IMO. I drove around for two days straight fuse out 1-1-14 and 1-2-14. Drove fine, everything worked the only reason I put it back in was for cruise and abs for driving my son around. I got up to 60mph on slick snowy roads and everything was fine.(I have brand new tires) with the fuse out just shift into 2nd gear a lot earlier than on dry roads, go WOT and you are moving. Did z spin donuts with the fuse out, big drifts the works. everything was fine then and after i put the fuse back in.

can't blame me! it is the actual Polar Vortex which you know, is supposed to be over the North Pole!

I saw an article that said we haven't seen this cold this 1996, which is the winter before the worst flood on record for my area....great.....

i think with the fuse out (off in my case) the driveability of the car is much improved, I wish it was that way from the factory. I have most the same observations as you. I thought cruise still worked though, guess I never tried it.

I don't use cruise, so that's no biggie.

Was the heavy steering and rev limit only if you removed the underhood fuse then?

And no, the dash button does allow the wheels to spin freely, and thus maybe it actually DOES help drive ability, just not going sideways.. I know that's what happened with my VDC button on my Si. Overall driveability improved. May be the same way. So then if you want to go all out, pull the under dash fuse and go sideways.

Definitely doing this next snow we get..

trust me, after killing the VDC, the built in VDC button doesn't do anything because it allows some spin, but still limits it quite a bit.

pretty sure it is there for looks

Dunno, I mean, I have no valid proof that it DOES do anything. Just saying that it "feels" different. The car feels a little more edgy and maneuverable, rather than tight and struggly. May affect the 5mt's less? But for the CVT, it definitely feels this way. But that's all I can go on with no on-board monitoring..

Well, I've driven my car around a bit with the fuse pulled. It's been snowing a lot recently and the roads have been pretty slick, the ABS does me no favors in the snow and driving around in empty parking lots has been pretty awesome. Man does this car drift well.

Anyway, what I wanted to comment on was the change in handling after removing the fuse. I think the throttle profile is changed when the fuse is pulled. I know the car learns how you drive and adapts to your driving style with the throttle profile. When I remove the fuse, the throttle profile changes, it seems more linear to input. I'm pretty sure removing the fuse deactivates whatever profile is stored for your specific driving habits, but I can't be certain.

I also feel like, for some reason, I can feel the change of road conditions better without those safety features active, but that may be just because I'm paying more attention and not being lazy.

I agree. It feels like a completely different car

After all these constant snowstorms in the East Coast. I had to wire up and install my fun switch.

What did you use to cut through the switch panel? I had to use a fu*king exacto knife. Took me a good hour or so.

Looks like a perfect fit for the "FUN" switch. According to posts in the "Adding Switches To Dimmer Panel" thread this switch is from a 2014 Forester.

i posted a similar switch earlier, but unless it is a toggle switch, it won't work

You could wire it to a normally closed relay. The button will interrupt power to the system.

genious!!! but the switch is 45.00.

i always forget about relays.... normally closed would be power is going through the fuse right? so when you press the switch, it would open and cut the power. but once you released the button it would close again, correct? how would that be any different than a momentary switch?

been looking up so many different things today, i can't keep anything straight in my head right now...

Right. Chances are, this switch is normally open. Even if it were the normally closed type required here, there's no way it will handle all the current the VDC system requires.

I've wondered that. How much current does the system require? I built up a deactivation switch but I'm weary to leave it on there long simply because I'm not sure the solder and switches I built in are actually capable of handling the voltage and load.

Let the fuse rating be your guide.

the fuse we are disabling is 7.5amps and the factory vdc switch is normally closed, when you press the switch it opens the circuit

Then a normally open relay will do.
