Default Possible massive tranny leak.. Need suggestions

First off let me say, that the car is at the shop awaiting a mechanic to look at it, but I was hoping to maybe get some answers here.

I have a 2006 Subaru Imprezza 2.5I.. 73000 Miles on it.. Ive owned it since 43000.

Last night I drove home from work and parked my car.. I had zero issues with how the car drove.. was very smooth since i owned it... I moved my car today so my wife could get by, and I pulled it back on my driveway.. I noticed that I had a trail of fluid where I had driven.. I pulled it all the way up and looked under.. On the drivers side of the car in front of the tire, I had ALOT of fluid dripping.. I had the wife start the car while I looked and it poured out, and I could hear a gurgling sound (think pushing water through a pinched straw).. The fluid was darker, not red, So I thought it was oil.. I checked oil, and was down a qt.. I added the quart and went to drive to the mechanic.

I drove a mile to the end of my road and when I went to give it gas to pull out, I had nothing.. NO GEARS.. No drive, no reverse... I popped the hood and checked trans fluid NOTHING... Looked at the car.. I had "trans fluid" spraying through my tire and out from under my headlight (all drivers side)... The leak seemed to be isolated somewhere behind the headlight, but because of the skidplate, I couldnt see up from underneath..

I towed the car to the shop, and am awaiting the diagnosis.. Just hoping to get an answer or suggestions in here... Let me reiterate, that up until I stopped at the end of my road, the trans ran fine...

Do the trans coolant lines run in that area? It seems like it is to far forward in the car to be the transmission itself.. I am hoping I blew out a line if that is possible?? is it?? please be nice and give me good news...

Please let me know if you have any ideas, and sorry for the short story, I was trying to be detailed..

The trans lines run on the driverside up to the radiator, so yes it sounds like you blew a cooler line.

The check engine light probably came on because of your loss of fluid.

I assume this is an automatic? If so its most likely the transmission cooler lines.
