Default 2013 Lotus Exige S Roadster

Quote:
While it wasn’t the long-rumored convertible Evora that we had been hoping for, Lotus did stay true to its word and blew “the roof off” one of its models at this week’s 2012 Geneva Motor Show.

That model was the Exige S, which has now been revealed in Exige S Roadster form.

This is the first time an Exige model has been offered with a factory-fitted convertible roof, one which is typically lightweight and easy to put up and take down thanks to its conventional soft-top design.

Apart from its convertible roof, the Exige S Roadster is virtually identical to the Exige S hard-top. It also packs a supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 345 horsepower and is capable of 0-60 mph sprints of just 3.8 seconds. The Exige S Roadster comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but will also be available with Lotus’ Serial Precision Shift (SPS), a paddle-operated automated manual transmission.

Sadly, there are still no plans to offer the Exige S or this new Exige S Roadster in the U.S., although there have been reports that a track-only model may eventually make it across the pond.

Also on show in Geneva was a Lotus F1 Team Evora GTE, a special edition based on the already limited Evora GTE. Unveiled by Lotus F1 Team driver Kimi Raikkonen, the special edition Evora featured the same black and gold livery as Lotus’ F1 race car and some special touches such as a high-gloss carbon fiber body, gold-piped black leather bucket seats, and unique badging.

Why did they decide not to bring the new exige S here?

bumper and 2 stage airbag exemptions expired. A pity the new exige seems bad ass to me, though I feel the old one aint too shabby.

I did think the elise was the exige roadster however. I guess the elise will never get the v6

All Exiges are targas, not sure what the big deal is here showing one with the top off. Great to see they got the v6 to work given the 4age is no longer available. Seems the finite collection of Elises and Exiges in the country are all we will likely ever get, given Lotus' change to bigger, $$$ cars.

just lotus marketing at work. I have yet to take the top off my S though.

Good thinking on gt cars lotus, you have proven how well you can compete in the GT category with the evora, a car that is just like a cayman, but more expensive and much lower quality.

Exige V6 seems like the perfect niche to me still featherweight, but dont have to worry about being beat by a v6 mustang in a drag race. The V6 may have actually sold OK in the U.S, I guess we will never know.

It looks like it is trying too hard, like the front and rear styling is over-dramatic. I might be crazy, but the simpler lines of the Elise and Exige in '06 when I debated owning one were better and more in tune with the character of the car.

Apart from the Lamborghini like front bumper I think this car is much more subtle than the S2 Elise/Exige. Headlights are smoother and more traditional, no crazy split hood grill and the rest of the car is wider and smoother. It really looks quite nice, though I can't see how it doesn't weigh at least a couple hundred pounds more than an S2. It's a real shame Lotus decided not to continue this line in the US, the Evora isn't going to get it done for them. And the other cars are still vaporware, though they look fantastic.

I don't know how anyone could hate this car. It might be one of the best looking roadster's I've ever seen.

Agreed. This also doesn't look "Exige S" enough. Then again, I don't like roadsters so take it with a grain of salt.
