PR: Subie Gal Racing Survives Challenges of Ojibwe Pro Rally
Subie Gal Racing Finishes in the points at Ojibwe For Immediate Release – August 16-17 Bemidji, Minnesota - Subie Gal Racing finished in the points in both the 10,000 Lakes SCCA Club Rally (1st) and the Ojibwe Forests Pro Rally (2nd) held this past weekend in Bemidji, Minnesota. Friday’s portion of the Pro Rally contained what has been deemed some of the most fantastic and challenging weather that has been seen this past year in the SCCA Pro Rally Series. Most of Friday’s stages are run in the evening, and three stages in, a massive thunderstorm rolled in – and didn’t leave for the remainder of the evening. This storm turned soft, sandy stages into mud pits. Within MINUTES the stages were filled with 7-10” of mud, running water, standing water, and rally cars that fell victim to the elements. “I’ve never been so shook up on stage in all my life,” stated Subie Gal Racing team driver, Jamie Thomas, “I thought for sure not only would the car leave the road, but that we may do some serious, serious damage to it. Basically, I just kept some sort of momentum going without pushing too hard - I was very nervous as we tip toed through the muck and around less fortunate competitors, it was the most insane thing I’ve EVER seen on stage! ” Jamie and co-driver Tina Lengacher were successful enough to win the Production class in the 10,000 Lakes Club Rally while finishing 9th overall for the evening. Saturday’s stages were still rain soaked, but not nearly as bad as the previous evening. Things were moving along at a comfortable pace until the Super Special Stage – Stage 10 –as they rounded a sharp left-hander, they found themselves faced with 2 feet of damp, loose sand. “I took one look at that section of road, and knew we would not make it through without getting stuck in,” stated Jamie, “So, I dove for the grass on the inside of the corner, and just barely missed it. We immediately stopped moving and were stuck in good. I made a rookie mistake I feel, but chalk that one up as experience, I don’t think I’ll make that mistake again.” The team lost 28 minutes on that stage, but was permitted to continue and finished the remainder of the day with no major issues, allowing them to pick up 2nd place in Production class of the Pro Rally portion of the event as many other Production cars had run into more terminal difficulties. Next event for Subie Gal Racing is the Wild West International SCCA Pro/Club Rally held in Olympia/Shelton, Washington, September 7th-8th. yikes!!!
AM I COFFEE DEPRIVED OR WHAT? before i get clobbered... i have some more thank you's that need to be said! first off... thank you to www.subaru.net For hosting the Rallyfest and for assisting Subie Gal Racing with their tow fund!! thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks to AV Sport - www.avsport.net for the awesome kick arse Pirelli tyres! This was my first time on Pirelli's and I have to say they had much more bite than the michelins, much more grip and were a lot firmer. I'll continue to run them at the Wild West Pro Rally - and in a time where rally tyres are scarce, AV Sport came through for our team! Thanks Guys!! And a wee thanks to the Prodrive guys and Subaru Team USA for allowing us to borrow their welder and fix my (again) broken exhaust. Really appreciate it, as do my ear drums! Just didnt want you guys to think I forgot ya! Rally is such a different atmosphere, nice to see some of the other teams come together and help each other out!!! thanks all! see you at Wild West! cheers! Jamie www.subiegalracing.com |
