Oil level stays high unless it gets low on coolant. As soon as it gets low its down 2 quarts of oil. Happens about every 3k mikes.

Motor has 226000 on it.

That's weird. How often does the coolant get low?

Can you spot an oil leak? First and foremost though, why do you get low on coolant?

It has the typical oil leak from the pass side valvecover gasket.

No idea on the coolant except that maybe I get low from it keeping my oil level high

The question here that needs to be asked is how often do you get low on coolant? Leaks? Recent radiator, heater core, water pump, or coolant leak work done to the car? This would just be air purging out of the system and no big deal.

Look on the bottom of the oil fill cap. Does it have a white milky paste on it?

Oil look black or fresh? Or does it look white ish with signs of coolant contamination.

No smoke? No oil problems? Recent work done on any of the things I listed above?

If no no and yes, then you don't have a problem. Put some coolant in it and be on your way

? Wut?

The coolant system is totally separate from the oil system. The only way the would mix is from a failure of some kind, usually headgasket failure. In this case there would be coolant in oil or visa versa. If you dont see this then your oil level has nothing to do with your coolant level.

What? Your coolant does not get low because your oil is high. You either have not put enough coolant in your car or it may have looked like you did because of air in the system or you have coolant leaking from somewhere probably a hose or the radiator. It could possibly be leaking at the head gasket but if you do not have white smoke, etc then that probably rules that out. As for your car burning up a lot of oil if there is no oil in your coolant then your head gasket is probably fine and your car is just running like *****
