Only in a Subaru is the exhaust a more effective way to get someones attention then the horn.
I practice this on a regular basis, though usually moreso when I'm reversing out of a parking spot, to warn/wake up the potential jackasses not paying attention (cellphones, etc.) that I'm about to violate their laws of physics.

That's smart! I've poked out a few times only to see some idiot swerve around me going 30 mph in a freakin parking lot, as close as he can possibly drive to the parked cars.

Thanks.
If you think about it, the parking lot is one of the more collision-prone areas, due to people getting in their cars from shopping/work/whatever, and the first thing they do is check their phones. When they're driving. Because _clearly_ this is the best thing to do.
Ahem. (yes, I'm biased and bitter, thankyouverymuch)
Maybe I'll finally have to upgrade from stock, just so I have a louder "warning". (not the only reason, surely, but it sounds like a plausible excuse...)

When you're considering taking a job in another country and the first thing that you do is research smog and car modding laws ... followed by the cost and availability of high octane gas .. followed by the cost of housing that includes secure parking.

Oh ... THEN you look at comparative salaries and living expenses. :P

YES to 3 x infiinity, but you don't even need an exhaust, moms/grandmothers/baby sitters...I figure they see the STI's aggressive styling and think were going to jump out, eat the children, cut em up, then drive off in a fit of rage! Makes me so upset, because I always try and go a slow as possible, smile/wave, say hello...but they always look back at me like I just ran over thier mail box.
