Default Doggone Shift Lock! Won't Release!

I have a '93 Subaru Impreza, Automatic, 2-wheel drive, 1.8 liter engine.

My shift lock releases only intermittently. Half the day it works, the other half the day it doesn't.

Looks like there are 3 components involved:
1.) Brake light switch. A push-button switch that sits above my brake pedal. Depressing the brake pedal makes room for the push-button to spring out, which sends a signal to the "shift-release solenoid" under the gear shift. (Also sends a signal to turn on the brake lights.)

2.) Shift-Release Solenoid. This is the actual thing that releases the gear shift. The "brake light switch" sends an electrical signal to this solenoid, causing it to move the lever that releases my gear shift.

3.) Shift Lock Control Module. This is the 2-inch-square black box computer chip under the dash that makes it all work.

I am on my 7th (yes, SEVENTH) brake light switch. I now realize this was NEVER the culprit. After trying both generic, as well as expensive brand-name brake light switches, I'm finally realizing that the problem is elsewhere. Especially because even though the shift lock doesn't release, my brake lights always come on!

Today, I replaced the Shift-Release Solenoid. Still no luck. Shift lock would only release intermittently.

Therefore, I replaced the only thing left -- the Shift Lock Control Module. And, I STILL have trouble.

What's left?

Today, both myself and the mechanic were SO happy, because after he "diagnosed" my problem to be the "Shift Lock Control Module," and replaced it with another one, everything worked! But..... everything only "worked" for a couple hours......
