Exclamation Help! WRX Factory Alarm - Parking lights on / off??

I have the factory alarm installed in my WRX - I noticed this a month ago, and had been keeping an eye on it...
Sometimes - when I arm / disarm the car, the parking lights don't flash.

So last night I go out with friends to eat, and lock the car. No flash of the parking lights! - I'm like "See - I'm not crazy!" I unlocked it, and locked it a couple of times, and still no dice.

I drove home, locked the car - no lights. I had a feeling that it may depend if I leave my lights on or off when I shut off the car. So I experimented with locking the car with the lights turned to off, then on - no difference...

Still thinking that it's something stupid - I read the "fabulous" manual. In the Q&A section - it says... "Sometimes my parking lights blink, and sometimes not, why is that?" - The books answer - "You car is in valet mode."

Ahh HA!
So I run downstairs, and proceed to get my car INTO valet mode. If it's in valet mode - the dash board light blinks while the car is running. So it's not that....

I lock the car... Still no parking lights...

This morning I get into work, lock car. Parking lights are back and blinking... - "What the hell?"

So I think I have a loose connection - does anyone else have the same problem - or have a fix??
Thanks in advance,
Kris

Was the alarm upgrade installed professionally?

Just kidding man.. you can punch me next to you see me.

Sounds to me like a bad relay. The relay is activating the locks, but the output to the lights might be dead, or on it's way out?

Ass!

The install is monkey simple to install. I suggested I did something stupid, but plug in a harness and 2 relays - it too easy to screw up. I too think it may be a bad relay... but I wanted to see if it was anything else I was missing.

The manual was a little less then "extensive".

I had this problem too. make sure all the connections are tight.. I had a loose connector to the alarm control module next to the handbrake and as soon as I pushed it in, it all worked. Yes, the lights always flash with the Subaru alarm-- this feature can't be disabled like the horn. There should also be a little red light in your instrument binnacle which flashes when you arm the alarm.

Thanks for this thread: with the horn signal disabled, which i did verysoon after delivery, should the parking lights flash? My alarm was 'port installed'. So should I have this looked at i.e. this is not normal? I miss flashing lights. The horn is a bit too loud for me.

Okay - Day 3.
This morning I unlocked my car... No parking lights - get to work... Parking lights. I'm guessing it's a shoddy connection.

According to the manual - there is no way to disable the blink of the parking lights. I guess we found a way.
While I have the center console apart - I might as well track down which wire controls the parking lights. It doesn't appear to affect functionality with or without them - just annoy me when not working.

When I know more - I'll post it. - Thanks, Kris
