Default Why did Tesla offered only 10 minutes test drives of the Model S?

Quote:
When Tesla Motors' Model S electric vehicle was launched on June 22, media members were allowed to go on test drives. The problem is that they were limited to 10 minutes on a controlled circuit and could only drive for a few blocks. This doesn’t really permit the media people to evaluate the vehicle thoroughly. Tesla started deliveries of the first batch of retail-ready Model S units on June 22 at its Fremont, Calif. plant. Tesla couldn’t possibly accommodate all of the requests from media people around the world so it invited just a few who could best publicize the Tesla unit. There were speculations from those who were not invited that Tesla’s claim of a 230-mile battery range is false or that it only invited journalists who would give the Model S a positive review. Tesla invited a minimum of 100 journalists from different countries.

Sounds like a typical 'first drive' media launch to me. Why did journalists only get 2 or 3 laps around a small racetrack when the GT-86 was launched? Oh, because they were pre-production cars and weren't supposed to be judged as production-ready vehicles.

The weird thing here.. is that it sounds like they might have been driving production-ready Teslas.

Reviews have also been ridiculously glowing - even included in R&T's best muscle car list... seriously?

Let's see, an electric vehicle with a limited range battery, an event with a limited timeframe, a bunch of people all wanting to take a turn, and they complain that their time was limited?

I think the writer is trolling, electric cars are always good for controversy.

Muscle cars are grouped by explosive feel and 1/4 mile times. A Tesla does have similar 1/4 times as a Camaro SS or Mustang GT. It only has HP equivalent to 400+hp and torque of 300+lbs, but it is all available from 0 RPMs. From what I understand the Tesla does have only about half the range, but how much does one drive over 3 hours per day in a Muscle Car?

R&T picked the new Viper, the ZR1, the GT500, and the Tesla sedan which one doesn't belong?

Muscle cars also sound awesome, are tail happy, and are decidedly masculine. The Tesla has a hubba bubba pink vag in comparison.

Since the comparison is so ridiculous, I am questioning the rest of the reviews as well. Maybe I should just go drive it and find out 1st hand.

They don't want the press to know what will happen in the eleventh minute.

One thing in particular about the Model S control knobs ... all have the highest setting of eleven, unlike standard muscle cars, whose settings are typically numbered from 0 to 10. These go to eleven.

Actually, I would put those cars more into the Exotic sports car category myself.
